The nutrient intake

HIV worsens the nutritional status by increasing the body’s requirement for food and also leads to opportunistic infections, which in turn, increase body nutrition requirements. The objective was to assess nutrient intake, nutrient status and nutritional status and establish the infection pattern of HIV seropositive patients attending a Comprehensive Care Clinic.

Regular consumption of breakfast is associated with improved cognitive performance and nutrient intake in adolescents. Despite breakfast’s positive attributes, many children go to school without breakfast. The objective of this study was to assess the association between breakfast eating habits and cognitive performance among early adolescents aged 11-13 years old in the study area.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and nutrition status of human are linked to HIV infection and poor nutrient intake can speed the disease progress. Both macro-and micronutrient deficiencies could impair host immune functions and promote viral replication and pathogenicity, thus potentially affecting the clinical course of HIV infection.

Nutrition-specific interventions alone will not help countries to end child malnutrition; nutrition-sensitive interventions such as women empowerment are also needed. Therefore, this cross sectional study was conducted to assess the association of women leading land use with nutrient intakes among children aged 6 to 59 months in Oromia, Ethiopia.

Undernutrition is an increasingly common problem. Insufficient calorie intake and nutrient deficiencies during pregnancy may have an impact not only on the mother, but may also alter metabolism in the infant. In this study, we have applied a calorie-restricted diet during gestation and examined its effect on hepatic Fasn mRNA and DNA methylation profiles in rats and their female progeny.

Coexisting Forms of Malnutrition (CFM) refers to the presence of more than one type of nutritional disorder in an individual. Worldwide, CFM affects more than half of all malnourished children, and compared to standalone forms of malnutrition, CFM is associated with a higher risk of illness and death.

A Latin square experiment was designed with 4 treatments and 4 periods on 4 growing cattle (252± 54 kg) to study on the effect of ensilaged soybean forage replacing Varisme 06 (Pennisetum americanum x P. purpureum) in the diets on nutrient digestibility and nitrogen retention. Each experimental periodwas last 20 days.

Unintended weight loss and the reduction in appetite are common phenomenon among older people. Reduced appetite has been linked to medication related reductions in saliva production, reduced taste ability and poor oral health. Poor appetite can result in reduced nutrient intake ensuing weight loss.

Nuts are nutrient-rich and reported to provide some cognitive and cardiometabolic health benefits, but limited studies have focused on older adults. This study investigated the cross-sectional relationship between habitual nut intake, dietary pattern and quality, cognition and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in older adults.

The CV weed could be fed as a supplement to a poor-quality forage or fed solely without any negative effects. Feed intake, nutrient utilization, and gain can be improved when the weed is offered. The supplementation of cassava chips as a source of readily fermented carbohydrates to the weed has the potential to effectively improve nutrients utilization and benefits for lowering urinary N loss. A further study is needed to evaluate the effects of the weed on CH4 production and rumen fermentation characteristic.

To ensure sustainability of aquaculture, plant-based ingredients are being used in feeds to replace marine-derived products. However, plants contain secondary metabolites which can affect food intake and nutrient utilisation of fish. The application of nutritional stimuli during early development can induce long-term changes in animal physiology. Recently, we successfully used this approach to improve the utilisation of plant-based diets in diploid and triploid Atlantic salmon.

Feed efficiency (FE) is an indicator of efficiency in converting energy and nutrients from feed into a tissue that is of major environmental and economic significance. The molecular mechanisms contributing to differences in FE are not fully elucidated, therefore the objective of this study was to profile the porcine Longissimus thoracis et lumborum (LTL) muscle transcriptome, examine the product quality from pigs divergent in FE and investigate the functional networks underpinning the potential relationship between product quality and FE.
