  • : Fluid vents in the Sea of Marmara were discovered and investigated by several studies. In this paper, a numerical model is created for the first time to determine the possible transport mechanism behind those fluid emissions at the seafloor. The finite volume method is used for numerical simulations by implementing a commercial finite volume code, ANSYS-Fluent. The thermal and physical rock properties used in our models are taken from previous studies.

  • Borotellurite glasses were prepared by melt quenching technique. Amorphous nature of samples was confirmed through X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns. Effect of B2O3 content on the structure of glass network was studied through Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra. Optical band gap and Urbach energy were found from analysis of optical absorption spectra. Thermal studies were carried out by using Differential thermal analyzer (DTA) measurements.

  • Heat shock proteins (HSPs) usually act as molecular chaperones to prevent proteins from being denatured in response to high temperature and other extreme conditions. These are highly conserved from prokaryotes to eukaryotes. In this study, we analysed the differential expression pattern of hsp21 and hsp70 transcript during thermal stress in tropical tasar silkworm. We found expression of hsp21 and hsp70 were upregulated ~2.5 and 4 folds respectively in the temperature treated larvae in comparison to the control larvae.

  • Polypropylene/ maleic anhydride /organic montmorillonite nanocomposites (PP/ MA/ Org-MMT) have been prepared via direct melt intercalation in an internal mixer. Maleic anhydride (MA) was used as a compatibilizer to improve the dispersability of the clay. The structures of nanocomposites have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Mechanical properties and thermal stability were determined by tensile analysis and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively.

  • This work pointed out the preparation of a magnetic glass–ceramic in the system Fe2O3–ZnO–CaO–SiO2. The base composition was designed to crystallize about 60% magnetite. The influence of adding TiO2, Na2O and P2O5 separately or as mixtures was studied. The DTA of the glasses revealed a decrease in the thermal effects by adding P2O5, TiO2 and Na2O in an increasing order. The X-ray diffraction patterns showed the presence of nanometric magnetite crystals in a glassy matrix after cooling from the melting temperature.

  • The differential thermal analysis of the quenched samples revealed decrease in the thermal effects by adding P2O5 and/or MnO2 to the base sample. The X-ray diffraction patterns show the development of nanometric magnetite crystals in a glassy matrix. Heat treatment at 800 C for 2 h, under reducing atmosphere, caused an increase in the amount of the crystallized magnetite with the appearance of minor hematite and Ca2SiO4. The transmission electron microscope revealed a crystallite size in the range 10–30 nm.

  • Energy storage systems (ESSs) have experienced a very rapid growth in recent years and are expected to be a promising tool in order to improving power system reliability and being economically efficient. The ESSs possess many potential benefits in various areas in the electric power systems. One of the main benefits of an ESS, especially a bulk unit, relies on smoothing the load pattern by decreasing on-peak and increasing off-peak loads, known as load leveling. These devices require new methods and tools in order to model and optimize their effects in the power system studies.

  • This article presents a new approach for estimating the depth, size, and metabolic heat generation rate of a tumour. For this purpose, the surface temperature distribution of a breast thermal image and the dynamic neural network was used. The research consisted of two steps: forward and inverse. For the forward section, a finite element model was created. The Pennes bio-heat equation was solved to find surface and depth temperature distributions. Data from the analysis, then, were used to train the dynamic neural network model (DNN).
