Topical medications derived from traditional medicines play a crucial role in dermatological treatment, often serving as the primary therapeutic approach. The underlying causes of dermatological conditions may include external factors such as wind, cold, dampness, heat, parasites, or internal imbalances such as stagnation of qi, blood stasis or deficiencies in liver and kidney function. Treatment methods in traditional medicine may incorporate remedies, surgical interventions, or a combination of both.

To develop the Bio-pharmacology major at the university level, a comprehensive survey of invertebrate arthropods (Arthropoda) and annelids (Annelida) utilized as Vietnamese traditional medicines was conducted. Red yeast rice is produced from rice using Monascus purpureus fungus, which results in the red colour of the fermented rice. Red yeast rice has been used for a thousand years as a food preservative and in traditional medicine to support vascular and digestive health. This study used Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to concurrently analyse citrinin and monacolin K produced by M. purpureus strain.

Nuclear factor erythroid-2 related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a crucial transcription factor that regulates the expression of defensive antioxidants and detoxification enzymes in cells. In a previous study, we showed that expression of the Nrf2 gene is regulated by an epigenetic modification. Rauvolfia verticillata, a traditional Chinese herbal medicine widely used in China, possesses anticancer and antioxidant effects. In this study, we investigated how Nrf2 is epigenetically regulated by reserpine, the main active component in R. verticillata, in mouse skin epidermal JB6 P+ cells.

The K103N substitution is a frequently observed HIV-1 RT mutation in patients who do not respond to combinationtherapy. The drugs Efavirenz, MSC194 and PNU142721 belong to the recent generation of NNRTIs characterized by an improved resistance profile to the most common single point mutations within HIV-1 RT, including the K103N mutation. In the present study we present structural observations from Efavirenz in complex with wild-type protein and the K103N mutant and PNU142721 and MSC194 in complex with the K103N mutant.
