  • The N,O-bidentate ligand 2-((methylimino)methyl)pyren-1-ol (1) gives with nickel acetate in a mixed solvent of toluene and ethanol in the presence of NaOAc the nickel(II) complex 1(Ni). It was characterized by elemental analysis, IR, NMR, MS spectroscopy and single crystal Xray diffraction. With respect to the nickel atom the complex 1(Ni) adopts a distorted square planar trans-coordination geometry.

  • The synthesis of copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) by surfactant-assisted chemical reduction method was studied aiming to identify the content of PVP-surfactant corresponding to the size of copper particles. The crystallite size and phase of CuNPs were determined by Xray diffraction (XRD) analysis while transmission and scanning electron microscopy (TEM and SEM) were used to characterize the size of copper particles.

  • Three new derivatives containing thieno[3,2-b]thiophene, ethyl 5- (anthracen-9-yl)thieno[3,2-b]thiophene-2-carboxylate (1a), ethyl 5-(4-cyanophenyl) thieno[3,2-b]thiophene-2-carboxylate (1b) and 3-(5-(anthracen-9-yl)thieno[3,2-b] thiophen-2-yl)pyridine (2a) were synthesized by arylation reaction in presence of 1.0 mol% of Pd(OAc)2. Their structures were elucidated with NMR, MS and XRay analysis. The selectivity of arylation was at C6 of either ester or pyridine substituted instead of C2 positions.

  • The present work reveals the green combustion preparation of the Ag-doped ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) using turmeric root extract as a fuel. The structure and morphology of Ag-doped ZnO NPs were investigated by several analytical techniques such as XRD (X-Ray Diffraction), SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared), Raman, XPS (XRay Photoelectron Spectroscopy), and UV-Visible Spectroscopy (UVeVis).

  • Diagnosis and Staging Screening Most patients with lung cancer present with advanced disease, raising the question of whether screening would detect these tumors at an earlier stage when they are theoretically more curable. The role of screening high-risk patients (for example current or former smokers 50 years of age) for early stage lung cancers is debated.

  • Unmodified montmorillonite clay was utilized as a low cost adsorbent for the removal of heavy metals from a contaminated automobile effluent. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Xray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy were used to characterize the adsorbent. Batch sorption experiments were performed at an optimum effluent pH of 6.5, adsorbent dose of 0.1 g, particle size of 100 lm and equilibrium contact time of 180 min. Thermodynamic analysis was also conducted. Equilibrium data were analyzed by the Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin–Radushkevich models.

  • In this report, thin layers of MoS2 were in-situ incorporated into graphene oxide (GO) to form MoS2/graphene nanocomposite by a facile ultrasonic-assisted hydrothermal method. Xray Diffraction (XRD) and Raman analysis revealed that the as-synthesized MoS2 nanosheets crystalized in hexagonal phase 2H-MoS2 while High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM) images confirmed that MoS2 layers with average thickness of ~5–6 nm (6–8 layers) attached on the edges and surfaces of graphene sheets with high density and uniform shape restacking in three-dimensional (3D) architectures.

  • Pulmonary system is the most commonly involved system in people living with HIV as lungs are continuously exposed to the infection as they are rich in macrophages, dendritic cells, lymphocytes etc. In PLHIV immunity is suppressed, hence lungs are prone for infection and non infectious pulmonary diseases. According to autopsy findings, in HIV lung was affected almost upto 100% in the period of epidemic to 70% in the HAART era. Pneumonia is most common pulmonary manifestation followed by pulmonary tuberculosis and PCP.
