This shawl was inspired by tiny water droplets in nature, it will look beautiful in both lace or fingering weight yarn. If you use fingering weight yarn the simple stocking stitch section gives warm whilst still allowing the beauty of the lace border to show. Knitted top down the pattern can be scaled to use the most of your yarn, please read the re-sizing notes before starting. Circular needle of suitable size for your yarn Knitted and photographed by Gauge Sunsun Teje © 2010 The gauge for this pattern is not critical, pick a larger needle size than recommended Yarn: Merino Lace 650m for the yarn weight to produce open lace for the lacey border. How much yarn? Pattern Notes: 600m of fingering weight yarn on 3.75mm 3 garter stitch edge stitches on each side is maintained throughout. needles produces a shawl 36” (91cm) deep x 68” Slip stitch edging throughout. Slip first stitch of every row purlwise, knit last stitch of every row (172cm) wide. through back of loop. 650m of lace weight yarn on 3.75mm needles 1 stitch up the middle maintained throughout.. produces a shawl 30” (75cm) deep and 63“ (160cm) wide, using the standard sizing.   2. Re-Sizing Notes The shawl can be sized by adjusting the number of repeats for certain sections of the pattern. The stocking stitch section can be worked any multiple of 8 rows. Chart 2 should only be worked once. Chart 3 should only be worked once. For the smallest border work Chart 4 once, Chart 5 once, then Chart 4 once again, then Chat 6 once. To increase the size of the border work Chart 4 once, *Chart 5 once, Chart 4 once, * repeat, then work Chart 6 once. The following tables give the row numbers where you can start each chart. The total stitch counts are also included so that you can check your number of stitches at the end of each chart before starting the row. Numbers highlighted in bold shows the rows used to make the sample shawl, using the smallest border.
