Chemically synthesized unnatural base pairs (UBPs) have been proved to be attractive tools for developing DNA-based novel drugs, namely aptamers or ribozymes. Over the past decades, researchers have been investigating sets of UBPs which form orthogonal pairing without interacting with canonical ones, yet active in replication, transcription, and translation.
