Anaplasmosis, an animal disease caused by rickettsial bacteria in the genus Anaplasma, is of considerable economic importance in livestock animals in many countries worldwide. The objectives of this study were to determine the identity, prevalence, and geographic distribution of Ehrlichia and Anaplasma in naturally infected water buffalo in Thailand using PCR amplification and sequencing of the 16S ribosomal RNA and heat shock protein groEL genes.

Inferring phylogenetic trees for newly recovered genomes from metagenomic samples is very useful in determining the identities of uncultivated microorganisms. Even though 16S ribosomal RNA small subunit genes have been established as “gold standard” markers for inferring phylogenetic trees, they usually cannot be assembled very well in metagenomes due to shared regions among 16S genes. Using single-copy marker genes to build genome trees has become increasingly popular for uncultivated species.

Tách chiết và giải trình tự thành công gene 16S-rRNA của ba mẫu tôm thẻ chân trắng (Penaeus vannamei) Việt Nam. Hai mươi sáu loài thuộc họ tôm he (Penaeidae) được phân thành 8 nhóm dựa trên gene chỉ thị 16S-rRNA. Nhóm I có 5 loài, nhóm II có 4 loài, nhóm III có 5 loài, nhóm IV có 6 loài, nhóm V có 1 loài, nhóm VI có 1 loài, nhóm VII có 3 loài và nhóm VIII có 1 loài. Khoảng cách di truyền của nhóm III và nhóm V là gần nhất 0,272.

Studies on the airway microbiome have been performed using a wide range of laboratory protocols for high-throughput sequencing of the bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) gene. We sought to determine the impact of number of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) steps (1- or 2- steps) and choice of target marker gene region (V3 V4 and V4) on the presentation of the upper and lower airway microbiome.

Targeted amplicon sequencing of the 16S ribosomal RNA gene is one of the key tools for studying microbial diversity. The accuracy of this approach strongly depends on the choice of primer pairs and, in particular, on the balance between efficiency, specificity and sensitivity in the amplification of the different bacterial 16S sequences contained in a sample.

The aim of this study was to support for finding novel mechanisms that render bacteria resistant to the ribosome targeting antibiotics, we screen for antibiotic resistant 16S and 23S ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs) in multidrug resistant Salmonella serovars isolated from raw retail meats isolated from Hanoi, Vietnam. Bioinformatic analysis identified 193 unknown novel mutations (64 mutations in 16S rRNA and 129 mutations in 23S rRNA genes).

Leptospirosis, a zoonosis caused by Leptospira, is recognized as an emergent infectious disease. In currently, the lack of adequate diagnostic tools, vaccines are an attractive intervention strategy. In this experiment, a 550 bp fragment of large ribosomal RNA gene (16S rRNA) was sequenced and constructed phylogenetic tree from a panel of six Vietnamese pathogenic strains of Leptospira spirochetes (e.g., Pomona, Canicola, Mitis, Ictero haemohagiae, Bataviae, and Grippotyphosa).
