Superior vena cava syndrome is rarely attributed to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. We present the case of an 82-year-old Japanese man who experienced gradually progressive dyspnea on exertion. His physical examination revealed small vascular dilatations on his chest and upper abdominal skin characterized by blood flow from head to leg, indicating superior vena cava syndrome.

A 52-year-old man presented to the emergency department a few hours post gastroscopy with biopsies of the second part of the duodenum (D2) and colonoscopy with severe acute abdominal pain. On examination he had peri-umbilical tenderness. Subsequent laboratory and biochemical investigations revealed acute pancreatitis.

Gallbladder torsion is a rare cause of abdominal pain; however, it is important to diagnose pre-operatively. We report two cases of gallbladder torsion, both of which were not recognized until the time of surgery. Both patients were elderly thin females, presenting with right upper quadrant pain, and on examination had a positive Murphy’s sign, and pre-operative imaging was suggestive of acalculus cholecystitis.

There are reports of abdominal aortic or iliac aneurysms, but there are few reports describing infected aneurysms of the vertebral artery. A one year old female Labrador dog was presented to University Veterinary Hospital Kokkalai, with a history of anorexia, weakness, blood in urine and faeces. On physical examination mucous membranes were pale icteric, fever (105.30 F), tachypnoea was noticed. Abdominal palpation revealed splenomegaly which was confirmed by ultrasonography. Haemotological examination revealed leucocytosis, severe macrocytic hypochromic anaemia (VPRC-9.4%) and thrombocytopenia.
