  • This research has raised the question of whether the vibration transmission at a wall junction depends on how the wall is excited (by either a sound wave or a mechanical shaker). The aim of this research is to investigate this question and hence contribute to the revision of the series of standards. Villot and Guigou-Carter (2000) have considered this problem but their equations (10) and (13) appear to be in error. This research will endeavour to derive the correct equations and r epeat Villot and Guigou Carter’s calculations.

  • Surface resonance is a sound and tactile sensation research project. Through compositions and an installation, author focused on felt and heard vibration, how they are perceived and how they contribute to the experience of sound. The author this paper explored vibration as a product of low frequency (bass) sound, drawing inspiration from musical contexts where sensation from sound is emphasised.

  • The perishable commodities after maturity they undergo the stage of ripening and tissue softening. The change in texture of fruits and vegetables occurs due to the breakdown of pectin substance in the middle lamella and the measurement of tissue softening is an important parameter to determine the shelf life of that commodity.

  • Vibro-acoustic analysis of a finite orthotropic laminated double-composite plate with enclosed air cavity on an infinite acoustic rigid baffle is investigated analytically. Using the acoustic velocity potential to describe the acoustic vibration performance of a simple supported structure, the sound transmission loss (STL) is calculated from the ratio of incident to transmitted acoustic powers.

  • The problem of nonuniqueness (NU) of the solution of exterior acoustic problems via boundary integral equations is discussed in this article. The efficient implementation of the CHIEF (Combined Helmholtz Integral Equations Formulation) method to axisymmetric problems is studied. Interior axial fields are used to indicate the solution error and to select proper CHIEF points. The procedure makes full use of LU-decomposition as well as the forward solution derived in the solution. Implementations of the procedure for hard spheres are presented.

  • A new procedure for calculation and analysis of dispersion relation and real atomic vibration of fcc crystals containing dopant atom has been developed using anharmonic effective potential. Analytical expressions for dispersion relation separated by acoustic and optical branches; forbidden zone; effective force constant; Debye frequency and temperature; amplitude and phase of real vibration of atomic chain containing dopant atom have been derived. They contain Morse potential parameters characterizing vibration of each pair of atoms. ...

  • The science of acoustics deals with the creation of sound, sound transmission through solids, and the effects of sound on both inert and living materials. As a mechanical effect, sound is essentially the passage of pressure fluctuations through matter as the result of vibrational forces acting on that medium. Sound possesses the attributes of wave phenomena, as do light and radio signals. But unlike its electromagnetic counterparts, sound cannot travel through a vacuum.

  • Acoustics is a discipline that deals with many types of fields wave phenomena. Originally the field of Acoustics was consecrated to the sound, that is, the study of small pressure waves in air detected by the human ear. The scope of this field of physics has been extended to higher and lower frequencies and to higher intensity levels. Moreover, structural vibrations are also included in acoustics as a wave phenomena produced by elastic waves. This book is focused on acoustic waves in fluid media and elastic perturbations in heterogeneous media....

  • The definition of comfort in a motor vehicle is at once complex and subjective, changing not only with time (cars considered comfortable just twenty years ago are nowadays considered unsatisfactory) but also from user to user. The same user may change his appraisal depending on circumstances and his psychophysical state. But comfort remains an increasingly important parameter in customer choice and strongly competitive factor among manufacturers.
