Activating learners’ role

The study aims at exploring the role of warming up activities in a speaking lesson so that learners can become more activated for better speaking ability from psychological perspectives. Also, the study attempts to find out some effective warming up activities that can be used in a speaking class.

The two techniques: group work and questioning will help students increase their participation in communicative activities in large classes; systematic knowledge of using these techniques in large class context; suggest the implications for learners and teachers in order to raise their awareness of students’ active role and teachers’ efficiency in large classes.

This study focuses on the teaching and learning of English Literature, a compulsory subject in the course of study to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree at the Faculty of English (FoE) at Hanoi Nationnal University of Education (HNUE) and some recommendation on how to activate the students’ role to meet the goal of their university education and help them benefit from good learning habits.
