Acute radiation toxicity
-
Chemo-radiotherapy with curative intent for anal cancer has high complete remission rates, but acute treatment-related gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity is significant. Toxicity occurs due to irradiation of surrounding normal tissue. Current radiotherapy requires the addition of large planning margins to the radiation field to ensure target coverage regardless of the considerable organ motion in the pelvic region.

The goal of research was to investigate the possible relations between serum concentrations of IL-6 and TGF-β1, individual and clinical characteristics, and adverse effects of radiotherapy in patients with prostate cancer: acute and late genitourinary and gastrointestinal toxicity, and fatigue.

Large-scale trials have shown that hypofractionated adjuvant breast radiotherapy was as effective in terms of survival and local control as conventional fractionated radiotherapy, and acute toxicity was reduced with hypofractionated radiotherapy.

Cancers of the head and neck region are often characterized by locally advanced, non-metastatic disease. Standard treatments for advanced cervico-facial cancers of the skin or primary head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) include combinations of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, which are associated with high rates of acute toxicity and complications.

This paper aimed at implementing a treatment system for polluted water with textile dyes, starting with a photocatalytic decomposition process using sunlight as a source of energy and continuing with a bacterial biodegradation process, in order to reach degradation percentages higher than those obtained using only one of the processes mentioned above. When water treatment with the dye in the combined system was over, an acute ecotoxicity test was performed to make sure that toxic metabolites were not produced due to biodegradation.

To identify predictive factors of radiation-induced skin toxicity in breast cancer patients by the analysis of dosimetric and clinical factors. In our experience dose inhomogeneity underneath G2 – G3 skin reactions seems to be the most important predictor for acute skin damage and in these patients more complex treatment techniques should be considered to avoid skin damage.

After breast-conserving radiation therapy most patients experience acute skin toxicity to some degree. This may impair patients’ quality of life, cause pain and discomfort. In this study, we investigated treatment and patient-related factors, including genetic polymorphisms, that can modify the risk for severe radiation-induced skin toxicity in breast cancer patients.

Most cancer patients are treated with radiotherapy, but the treatment can also damage the surrounding normal tissue. Acute skin damage from cancer radiotherapy diminishes patients’ quality of life, yet effective biological interventions for this damage are lacking.

The majority of patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) receive bilateral elective nodal irradiation (ENI), in order to reduce the risk of regional failure. Bilateral ENI, as compared to unilateral ENI, is associated with higher incidence of acute and late radiation-induced toxicity with subsequent deterioration of quality of life.

To evaluate patient’s characteristics and treatment outcomes of concurrent chemoradiation therapy with intensity modulated radiation therapy technique in upper third esophageal cancer patients. A descriptive perspective study on 32 upper third esophageal cancer patients treated by concurrent chemoradiation therapy with intensitymodulated radiation therapy using simultanous intergrated technique in Department of Radiation Oncology, 108 Military Central Hospital from 2014 to June 2018.

It may also infiltrate different organs, including liver, spleen, lymph nodes, CNS, kidneys, and gonads. Treatment options for patients with acute leukemia include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and stem cell or bone marrow transplantation. Finding a cure is a realistic goal for both ALL and AML, especially in younger patients. However, long-term survival is reachable in about one half of patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and in the minority of patients with acute myeloid leukemia.
