Root system architecture, as a complex trait, has gained attention due to climate change and abiotic stress pressure on crops. The incorporation of root traits in breeding objectives may enable new advances in climate-resilient crops. Here, the genetics of the seedling root system architecture in the Synthetic W7984 × Opata M85 Doubled Haploid mapping population was investigated. Three traits at the seedling stage and mature stage root and shoot biomass traits were mapped for quantitative trait loci (QTL) identification.

Synthetic hexaploid wheat (SHW) is a reconstitution of hexaploid wheat from its progenitors (Triticum turgidum ssp. durum L.; AABB x Aegilops tauschii Coss.; DD) and has novel sources of genetic diversity for broadening the genetic base of elite bread wheat (BW) germplasm (T. aestivum L). Understanding the diversity and population structure of SHWs will facilitate their use in wheat breeding programs.

Aegilops crassa cytoplasm is an important source for investigating cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS). Moreover, the stamens of line C303A exhibit a high degree of pistillody, turning almost white. However, the molecular mechanism that underlies pistillody in C303A remains unclear.

DUOII is a multi-ovary wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) line with two or three pistils and three stamens in each floret. The multi-ovary trait of DUOII is controlled by a dominant gene, whose expression can be suppressed by the heterogeneous cytoplasm of TeZhiI (TZI), a line with the nucleus of common wheat and the cytoplasm of Aegilops.

This research was carried out from 2001 to 2004 in order to determine the flora of Kaflmer Dagi. The research area is situated in fianliurfa province and within C7 of the grid system. In the area, 262 taxa belonging to 47 families, and 156 genera were determined. Of all the collected specimens, 33 taxa are new records for C7, and 10 taxa are endemic for Turkey.

In this study the aspartate aminotransferase (AAT, E.C. 2.6.1.1), phosphoglucomutase (PGM, E.C. 5.4.2.2) and phosphoglucose isomerase (PGI, E.C. 5.3.1.9) isozyme patterns of nine different diploid and tetraploid wild wheat species belonging to the Aegilops L. and Triticum L. genera were analysed electrophoretically, using horizontal starch gel and non-denaturating polyacrylamide gel (only for AAT).

This study concerns the evaluation of leaf anatomical characters (7 qualitative and 12 quantitative characters) among 26 accessions of the Aegilops L. species. The results of this study showed that the anatomical characters have high variation in the width of stomata, the number of long cells in the adaxial epidermis, the number of short cells in the abaxial epidermis, the number of stomata in the abaxial epidermis, the occurrence of prickles in the adaxial epidermis, and the width of phloem cells.

The hexaploid bread wheat Triticum aestivum L. (AABBDD) is thought to have originated through one or more rare hybridization events between Aegilops tauschii (DD) and the tetraploid Emmer wheat T. turgidum subsp. dicoccon (AABB).
