  • Mycoparasitism by Trichoderma sp. is one of the important modes of action exhibited by biocontrol agents against host fungi including plant pathogenic ones. Its study in-vitro constitutes considerable importance while studying bio-efficacy of an antagonist against a fungal pathogen. At present there is no standard, rapid, easy and reliable method to study mycelial interaction between a possible mycoparasitic fungi and host.

Isolation of the organism was performed by serial dilution agar plate technique and initial screening of protease production was done using gelatine agar plates by flooded the plates with mercuric chloride solution (HgCl2-15g and 20 ml of 6.0 N HCl made up to 100 ml with distilled water). A total of 5 isolates were selected based on zone diameter in gelatine clear zone method and named as TKMFT8, TKMFT22, TKMFT25, TKMFT39 and TKMFT53.

  • Chickpea wilt caused by F. oxysporum f. sp. ciceri is one of the most important seed and soil-borne disease in India. The study on association of the pathogen with chickpea seeds showed that the viable mycelium fragments, micro and macro-conidia of the pathogen were present on the seed surface of all susceptible and two resistant varieties/ germplasms in seed washing test. The pathogen was recovered from the untreated and sodium hypochlorite treated seeds of all susceptible varieties/ germplasms in the range of 10.67– 18.67 and 5.33–11.
