Agricultural commodity markets

This study aims to investigate the association between Thai stock market and the commodity markets using 20-year historical monthly data from January 2000 to January 2020. Commodity prices used in the research consist of the prices of crude oil, natural gas, liquified natural gas, commodity agricultural raw materials, and gold. The traditional VAR is used in analyzing the relations between the commodity prices and stock index. The findings show how changes in each commodity prices had significant influence on the stock market.

The paper used a cointegration test, the Granger causality test, and a vector autoregression (VAR) model to determine the relationship between the international coffee price on the spot market and the Vietnamese coffee export price from January 2004 to December 2017. The study found international coffee prices to have a significant effect on Vietnamese coffee export prices, but not vice versa.

Futures market is one to mitigate the risk of prices. There is a more important question to know regarding prices, both spot and futures, whether spot affects futures prices or viceversa. The present study examined the co-integration between spot and futures prices of agricultural commodities. The daily spot and futures price data of refined soy oil were obtained from the website of National Commodity and Derivative Exchange (NCDEX), Mumbai.

This actual unfolding of events vindicate the position that inflationary pressures stems from a number of factors, including supply side constraint, the global rise in prices of food and oil, the diversion of land for bio-fuel production, loose monetary policy in emerging economies, and the adoption of an expansionary fiscal policy. Hence the policy of across-the-board restriction of derivatives trading in agricultural commodities appears to be unjustifiable, inequitable, and counter-productive.

The expected impact on the occurrence of mycotoxins in food and feed is of great concern. Among mycotoxins, aflatoxins have acute and chronic toxicity that cause suppression of immune system and even cancer. Hence, its concentration in agricultural food, feed and their commodities is regulated worldwide. Fungi Aspergillus is responsible for aflatoxin contamination in maize grains.

This study uses the Rogers International Commodity Index (RICI) for composite commodities and RICI-Agriculture (RICA), RICI-Energy (RICIE), and RICI-Metals (RICIM) indices to examine the relationship between various commodity and stock markets. The empirical results indicated that stable long-term relationships exist between some commodity and stock markets, and that commodity indices generally lead stock market indices. Thus, in a number of countries/regions, investors can predict fluctuations in stock prices using variations in commodity indices.

The injudicious and indiscriminate application of pesticides to crops results in pesticide residues in food and food commodities with consequential hazards. The extent of hazard depends on the number of pesticide residues on crops and their toxicity. The main objective of this study was focused on determining the likely presence of pesticide residues in cereals and pulse samples in Sikrai Tehsil Dausa district, Rajasthan. The study was carried out for the year 2017 and 2018. 150 samples were taken from different farms and market analyzed using GC-MS/MS& LC-MS/MS.

At the outset, extension worked to bring about broad-based rural development. However, the food crises starting in the late 1950s refocused the efforts of extension on food security and increasing food production.
