Agricultural information by Extension personnel

The study was conducted in North Eastern Karnataka and Raitha Samparka Kendra’s (RSKs) of Kalaburgi and Raichur districts were selected for the study. The result of the study revealed that cent per cent of the extension personnel were using television for the purpose of obtaining knowledge/current agricultural events followed by internet (96.25 %) and mobile phone (91.25 %).

Information and Communication Technology has become an effective tool for transforming agriculture from traditional resource based method of production to a new science based method and commercialized agriculture in digitalized global village. The findings indicated that 44.4 percent of extension personnel had ICT facilities in their department among which computer and printer facilities were possessed by half of the respondents while facility of internet and digital camera were possessed by 30.0 percent of respondents.

India has been experiencing major changes in agricultural extension system since the beginning of the 21st century. The reforms included both demand and supply side measures. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has become a global tool often used by individuals, organizations, governments and inter-governmental organizations for personal or official activities. Its application cut across all fields of human endeavor like medicine, commerce, engineering, architecture, education, library services, and agriculture.

The study was conducted in Nagpur district of Maharashtra state. The extension personnel of State Department of Agriculture i.e. agricultural assistants are the grass root functionaries engaged in technology transfer process were the respondents under the present research endeavor. The study sample composed of one hundred agricultural assistants selected by random sampling method from seven taluka of the district.

The aim of the proposed activity is to enhance Viet Nam’s capacity for teaching and research and development in the citrus sub-sector of agriculture. This will be achieved by the publication of reference texts and the development of high quality curricula for farmer field schools (FFS) in citrus IPM. The three Vietnamese texts will incorporate the research results of ACIAR project CS2/96/176, current information not easily accessed in Viet Nam and new information collected from throughout Viet Nam as part of the activity.
