Land resources potential assessment is a valuable method for orienting land use planning in the world as well as in Vietnam. This study aimed to (1) assess land suitability and (2) orient the effective use of agricultural land in the study area. Results indicated that Ham Thuan Bac had 107 land mapping units (LMUs) with 11 main landuse types (LUTs) such as rice, cassava, vegetables, dragon fruit, and other trees. Agricultural land with high (S1) and moderate suitability (S2) for most LUTs was small; however, marginal (S3) and not suitability (N) lands were quite large.

The research objective of the thesis is to analyze the main socio-economic - environmental factors affecting the types of agricultural land use. These factors can be used for building an integrated model to optimize the agricultural land use area and land use allocation. That can help planners to improve the efficiency of land use planning.

Detailed soil resource inventorization was carried out at 1:7,920 scale in Bilalgodu microwatershed, Mudigere taluk, Chikkamagaluru district with an objective to assess the land suitability for various crops in the watershed. The soils of Bilalgodu micro-watershed are characterised and classified into 5 soil series comprising of 30 mapping units. The soil site characteristics and climatic factors were evaluated for its suitability for major existing crops of the location viz., coffee, arecanut, coconut and rice.

Land assessment is a specific requirement for the land use. Land assessment results provide the information on land types and natural conditions (land map units) so that we can evaluate the suitability of the land area for agricultural and non-agricultural use. In agriculture, appropriate crops for the land area are usually designed based on the land assessment data.

In the study area majority of the land holdings belong to semi-medium (2-4 ha) and medium (4-10 ha) category, which constitutes 34.91 and 31.98%, respectively (Agriculture census, 2010-11). Under such background a scientific attempt was made in Chhata tehsil of Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh, India to evaluate the land resources for land use planning towards sustainable crop production.

The tree farming is ecologically as well as economically more viable than traditional agriculture. Investment in tree plantations always remained relatively low in India, inspite of the fact that the existing forests cannot continue to meet our wood requirements. However, realizing the existing problem, the expenditure on afforestation has increased enormously from fifth five year plan onwards but still the results on the land are not encouraging and we have not been able to increase area as well as the forest productivity to the desired level.

Most common reason for the waterlogging problem in the agricultural field is absence of an adequate drainage system. The sustainability of farm operations are highly vulnerable due to fluctuations in rainfall. Thus, the estimation of drainage design layout and identification of the vulnerable area for waterlogging are the most vital operations for achieving maximum yield of paddy inland. In this study, the Cypress creek formula‘s used for estimating discharge of each plot.

Agriculture is the base to all strategies for planned socio-economic development of most of the countries. Studies have shown that 40% of food production is achieved from 17% of the irrigated areas in the world. As it is not possible to expand agricultural area and possibility of increasing production per unit area of available land and water resources are minimal, it is the need of time that surface and groundwater should be used in conjunction for optimal utilization of water resources.

Today, tractor is one of the most important power sources in agriculture. Effect of tractor power on agriculture is considerable. The use of modern technology during latter decades resulted in rapid growth of farm production. Tractors and farm machinery are important samples of this modern technology. The quality of inputs of mechanization and consequently land and labor productivity in both situations, may differ considerably. The study was planned and conducted during year 2015- 16.

The conversion of agricultural land into developed infrastructure entails trade-offs. Therefore, studying the dynamics of change between agriculture and developed areas is essential. This study utilizes remote sensing technology to study this dynamic. In particular, satellite images were utilized to assess the current land use master plan for the period of 2011-2020 in the Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin, Vietnam.

Urban sprawl is an international phenomenon happening principally in quickly developing areas. A study on the spatiotemporal features of urban sprawl is useful for the sustainable land management, landscape and urban land planning. The present research explores the trends, types and changes of landscape of urban sprawl in the context of a rapid urbanization process in Pleiku city and in the Central Highland of Viet Nam from 2000 to 2019. The results show the expansion of the Pleiku city has witnessed a fluctuation in its land uses through two decades.

Growing population pressure and human activities increases the demand on the limited land resources, both for agricultural and other land uses. To meet this unprecedented demand of land for various pursuits, it is imperative to develop land use plans which can counteract the detrimental effects on environment and at the same time improve productivity of land.

Agriculture describes routine activities related with weather change; water is centre point of whole components whether it is used for agricultural or non-agricultural process. Classification of land resource is on the basis of farming situation i.e. upland (Baadi, Tikra and Marhan), midland (Maal) and lowland (Gabhar). Revenue map incorporated with survey map for delineating land resources of the village in which upland, midland and lowland were classified on the basis of slope and soil depth pertaining crop growing capability.
