The extracts from 30 species of the green algae were examined for hemagglutination activity with a variety of different animal and human erythrocytes which were untreated and treated with enzymes. The hemagglutination activities of the green algal hemagglutinins were stable in a wide range of pH and temperature, and independent on divalent cations.

As marine seaweeds are a great source of natural products, investigating biological properties for appropriate management and exploitation is a priority. For our study, we collected and extracted indigenous algal samples from marine areas of Nha Trang bay belonging to nine species of Chlorophyta, Rhodophyta, and Ochophyta to investigate their cosmeceutical activities.

Seven algal species were collected from 7 different hotspots along Alexandrian Mediterranean shore; toluene and ethanol extract of U. fasciata and Enteromopha intestinalis showed the maximum antibacterial although Klebsiella pneumoniae (2) showed highest sensitivity towards the algal extracts while MRSA and MRSE were the most resistant organisms. MIC concentration was significantly low with Gram negative bacteria less than Gram positive bacteria.

Our study focused on S. crassifolium, one of the most abundant tropical brown algal species in South Central region of Vietnam. To our knowledge there had been no report on the intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging effect of its methanolic extract. The purpose of this study was to isolate and structurally elucidate the antioxidant component in dichlorofluorescein assay from S. Crassifolium methanolic extract.

The main objective of this study was to confirm and estimate the algal inhibiting effects of the ethanol and ethyl acetate E. fortunei extracts at concentrations of 500 mg.L- in some natural water samples collected from Hoan Kiem and Lang Lakes. The results of this work may be useful for controlling the toxic cyanobacterium bloom in natural aquatic ecosystem.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of nutritional formulations, viz. Bristol’s medium (BM), water extract of dairy waste (DW), commercial fertilizers mix (FM), and carbon sources such as NaHCO3, CaCO3, and wheat flour hydrolysate on the biomass productivity and oil content of the algal species Sirogonium sticticum, Temnogyra reflexa, Uronema elongatum, and Chroococcus turgidus.

Methanol, acetone, diethyl ether, and ethanol extracts of 11 seaweed species from the coast of Urla were tested in vitro for their antimicrobial activities against Candida sp., Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli with the disc diffusion method.
