Aluminum alloy wire

This test method covers procedures for determining the weight [mass] of coating on iron or steel sheet, wire, and other articles in which the coating is zinc or a zinc alloy, such as zinc-5 % aluminum (including zinc-5 % aluminummischmetal and zinc-5 % aluminum-0.1 % magnesium), zincaluminum-magnesium (including zinc-5 to 9 % aluminummagnesium and zinc-9 to 13 % aluminum-magnesium) or 55 % aluminum-zinc. In the body of this test method, reference to zinc coating shall be interpreted to also include zinc alloy coating except where specifically stated otherwise.

"Standard Specification for Metallic-Coated Carbon Steel Barbed Wire" covers metallic-coated steel barbed wire, consisting of a strand of two wires. The barbed wire is available with aluminum, zinc, and zinc-5 % aluminum-mischmetal alloy coatings, with a number of coating weights, in a number of different constructions (designs), and in two grades. Not all designs are available in all coating types.

This specification covers metallic-coated carbon steel wire used in the manufacture of chain-link fence fabric and marcelled tension wire. Three types of coatings are covered: Type I—Aluminum-coated (aluminized); Type II—Zinc-coated (galvanized), and; Type III—Zinc-5 % Aluminum-Mischmetal (Zn-5AlMM) alloy-coated.

Type 6201 aluminum alloy wires are produced by drawing 4.7 mm diameter billet-onbillet extruded redraw rod down to 2.7 mm diameter wires. Before drawing, the first group of redraw rod coils was annealed at 480 oC for 4 hours to reduce the hardness of the redraw rod.
