Present investigation was carried out to study the “Impact of seed priming on rice under anaerobic germination” during wet season, 2017-18. Experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replication and two varieties Sambha Mahsuri and Sambha Mahsuri Sub1 in cemented pond (size; 20×20×1.25 meter).

The present study designed new methods (Protray and beaker method) to screen for anaerobic germination by assessing simple seed and seedling characters such as germination per cent, greater shoot length by means of coleoptiles elongation and higher vigor index to find the donors for anaerobic stress tolerance.

A potted experiment was carried out in the net house of the Plant Breeding Unit, TRRI, Aduthurai in 2020 to screen and evaluate the performance of diverse rice genotypes for anaerobic germination ability with a view to select the suitable genotypes for multiple stress tolerance (drought and anaerobic germination) that will fit into the existing niche in the DSR. The aim of this experiment is to identify short duration genotypes with early vigour and potential to germinate under anaerobic condition.

The present investigation was carried out during Kharif 2017 at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Maruteru, Andhra Pradesh with an objective to screen the rice genotypes for their tolerance to anaerobic conditions during germination and also to identify varieties suitable for direct seeded rice cultivation, using two different methods, namely, test tube method and pro-tray method.

In the present investigation cause of association and direct and indirect effects were estimated between anaerobic germination traits, yield and its contributing traits in twenty five hybrids, along with their ten parents and three checks of rice (Oryza sativa L.). Single plant yield registered positive significant association with number of tillers per hill, number of productive tillers per hill, panicle length, spikelet fertility, number of grains per panicle and 1000-grain weight indicating that these characters were important for yield improvement.
