Ebook "Analytical chemistry applied to emerging pollutants" addresses the highly relevant subject of emerging pollutants, which are especially alarming since most of the available treatment technologies are unable to degrade them. It discusses the sources of these pollutants and their fate in the environment, and the main tools available for their analysis. It also describes the representative environmental matrices (air, soil and water) and appropriate analytical methods for each matrix.

Drawing integrated conclusions from diverse source data requires synthesis across multiple types of information. The ToxPi (Toxicological Prioritization Index) is an analytical framework that was developed to enable integration of multiple sources of evidence by transforming data into integrated, visual profiles.

It is well known that the standard doses of a given drug may not have equivalent effects in all patients. To date, the management of depression remains mainly empirical and often poorly evaluated.

Nowadays, heavy metal pollution is an urgent problem in the world including Vietnam. An analytical approach is very important to identify, assess and forecast environmental risks from toxic components, in which ecotoxicology is considered to be the optimal tool. We conducted a study on M. micrura in order to contribute the creation of a biological basis for the use of zooplankton as an early warning of the risk of water pollution. The results showed that M. micrura was isolated from 29/3 Park Lake, Da Nang City, central Vietnam. The acute toxicity test of potassium dichromate on M.

This article reviews methods for the determination and identification of trace elements in wine by using atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). Wine is one of the most widely consumed beverages and strict analytical control of trace elements content is required during the whole process of wine production from grape to the final product.

This book stems from the author’s experience with a variety of problems on the fate, distribution, and toxicity of organic compounds in the aquatic environment. It became increasingly clear that the procedures for investigating these problems crossed the traditional boundaries of organic and analytical chemistry, microbiology, and biology, and after many years this resulted in the idea of selecting the relevant aspects of these and writing the present book

A large amount of information has accumulated on humic acids and related substances, which warrants the creation of an independent science of humic compounds. Two different concepts have emerged from the maze of data, one claiming humic compounds to be operational or fake compounds, produced by the analytical extraction procedures, and the other considering them to be natural compounds occurring in soils, rivers, lakes, oceans and their sediments.

This book is an outgrowth of the author’s experience teaching a toxicology course for 12 years at West Chester University and his interactions with physicans and laboratory toxicologists for 24 years in the Crozer Keystone Health System. These experiences provided valuable insights into the needs both groups have for an enhanced understanding of toxicology in the laboratory and in the emergency department.

Introduction: The identification of a causative toxin is one of the most important tasks in emergency medicine; it requires both rapidness and accuracy. In the Japan-shaking poisoning incidents taking place in 1998, such as curry (arsenous acid) poisoning in Wakayama, sodium azide poisoning in Niigata and cyanide poisoning in Nagano, the importance of a rapid and accurate analysis system for poisons was well recognized by Japanese people and goverment.

Introduction: Forensic autopsy is an important task for proving crimes medically; unfortunately, every department of legal medicine of Japanese universities is suffering from insufficient staffs and budget. About 30 years ago, one of the authors started the analysis of drugs and poisons at the Department of Legal Medicine, Hiroshima University School of Medicine. At that time, the author did not have much knowledge about poison analysis; but it is a good memory that many good friends of toxicological societies gave the author many useful suggestions on analytical methods.
