  • How can you help your software team improve? This concise book introduces codermetrics, a clear and objective way to identify, analyze, and discuss the successes and failures of software engineers—not as part of a performance review, but as a way to make the team a more cohesive and productive unit. Experienced team builder Jonathan Alexander explains how codermetrics helps teams understand exactly what occurred during a project, and enables each coder to focus on specific improvements.

  • Any organization that has a searchable web site or intranet is sitting on top of hugely valuable and usually under-exploited data: logs that capture what users are searching for, how often each query was searched, and how many results each query retrieved. Search queries are gold: they are real data that show us exactly what users are searching for in their own words. This book shows you how to use search analytics to carry on a conversation with your customers: listen to and understand their needs, and improve your content, navigation and search performance to meet those needs....

  • Basic analyses were conducted upon an existing headlamp, and the validity of the analytical model was verified by testing existing reflector temperatures under conditions similar to those modeled during the analyses. Based on this verification, three types of radiating fins were modeled and analyzed. The vertical fin type exhibited the highest heat dissipation performance. Subsequently, design variables were selected for the vertical fin type and size optimization was performed using the design of the experiment model. Results confirmed a heat dissipation performance increase of 4.

  • Every time there is a major financial crisis, and there have been quite a number of them in history, we fi nd that there are many who are ready to dwell on blaming people and institutions; and only very few who offer really serious and constructive new proposals for improvements in our fi nancial system that can repair the damage and reduce the impact of future crises. It is much harder to do the latter, as it requires coming to an understanding of the real origins of the crisis.

  • Traditional Supply Chain Management (SCM) aims at movement of goods and services from one end of this chain to the other through different stages so as to improve the efficiency, productivity and profitability of the entire process. As SCM spans across the economic functions of the entire value chain of a product or service, it is vital for a company to join in, form, or coordinate its business related supply chains, forming various kinds of business relationships.

  • This third edition of Analytical Chemistry for Technicians is the culmination and final product of a series of four projects funded by the National Science Foundation’s Advanced Technological Education Program and two supporting grants from the DuPont Company. The grant funds have enabled me to utilize an almost limitless reservoir of human and other resources in the development and completion of this manuscript and to vastly improve and update the previous edition. A visible example is the CD that accompanies this book.

  • Applied statistics and probabilty for engineers_This is an introductory textbook for a first course in applied statistics and probability for undergraduate students in engineering and the physical or chemical sciences. These individuals play a significant role in designing and developing new products and manufacturing systems and processes, and they also improve existing systems. Statistical methods are an important tool in these activities because they provide the engineer with both descriptive and analytical methods for dealing with the variability in observed data.

  • In the area of sport and exercise students and researchers often face important questions. For example, in sport psychology, a student may be interested in examining whether the pre-competitive anxiety levels of a group of athletes can be predicted by a number of psychological variables. In exercise physiology, another student may want to examine the degree to which a particular training programme has improved the aerobic capacity of a group of runners.

  • Partnerships with donor countries have also been very impor- tant for encouraging gender mainstreaming in the Bank. This is true both at the corporate level, where donor countries have co-financed research, evaluation, analysis, and the development of tools, and at a regional and country level. Local partnerships with donors have, in some instances, been extremely effective in leveraging small contri- butions to support in-country analytical and strategic work.

  • The rising of big data brings revolutionary changes to many aspects of our lives. Huge volume of data, along with its complexity poses big challenges to data analytic applications. Techniques proposed in data warehousing and online analytical processing, such as precomputed multidimensional cubes, dramatically improve the response time of analytic queries based on relational databases. There are some recent works extending similar concepts into NoSQL such as constructing cubes from NoSQL stores and converting existing cubes into NoSQL stores

  • This research contributes to the improvement of the optimal headway solution for the transit performance functions derived from the traffic model proposed by Hendrickson. The purpose of this paper is threefold. First, we prove that that model has a unique solution for headway. Second, we offer a formulated approximation for headway. Third, numerical examples illustrate that our formulated approximation performs more accurately than the Hendrickson’s.

  • An effective knowledge transfer (KT) process is a key factor in achieving the competitive advantage that is critical for software development companies seeking to maintain their existence and improve their performance. However, there do exist obstacles to the achievement of effective knowledge transfer. Companies often face difficulties in identifying those barriers that have the great impact on KT as well as the best solutions with which to address them. Through a systematic literature review and interviews conducted with 15 experts, we identified 21 KT barriers and 12 KT solutions.

  • This paper examines learning and academic analytics and its relevance to distance education in undergraduate and graduate programs as it impacts students and teaching faculty, and also academic institutions. The focus is to explore the measurement, collection, analysis, and reporting of data as predictors of student success and drivers of departmental process and program curriculum. Learning and academic analytics in higher education is used to predict student success by examining how and what students learn and how success is supported by academic programs and institutions.

  • In this paper, an improved version of Differential Evolution algorithm, called iDE, is introduced to solve design optimization problems of composite laminated beams. The beams used in this research are Timoshenko beam models computed based on analytical formula. The iDE is formed by modifying the mutation and the selection step of the original algorithm. Particularly, individuals involved in mutation were chosen by Roulette wheel selection via acceptant stochastic instead of the random selection.

  • A major challenge in clinical periodontics is to find a reliable molecular marker of periodontal support loss with high sensitivity, specificity and utility (Buduneli & Kinane 2011). Molecules derived from inflamed host tissue and pathogenic bacteria have the potential of being used as markers of periodontitis; however, molecular markers of bone resorption have advantages as they relate to specificity for bone, easy detection, pre-analytic stability and availability of sensitive and specific assays for detection (Forde et al. 2006).

  • The B2B Marketing community has been humbled by the recent recession. This economic crisis has forced marketers to operate with limited resources, while facing a need to produce a higher level of quality leads than ever before. Through budget cuts and increased expectations, the organizations that persevered were the ones who effectively applied the most efficient marketing tactics for every stage of the sales funnel, from lead generation to sales conversion, and then closed the loop with sound marketing analytics for continual improvement.

  • The committee was tasked to determine the best instrumentation and procedures for measuring BFD (see Box S-1). To do this, it reviewed technical specifications, viewed demonstrations of the operation and use of current and prospective systems, and evaluated factors such as human handling variability, process transparency, and software variability judgment. The committee found that given the current clay variation, a measurement precision (standard deviation) of 0.5 mm is sufficient; instruments featuring greater precision add little practical value to the testing process.
