Recent advances in the management of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs) highlight the potential benefits of temozolomide, an alkylating agent, for these patients. In this meta-analysis, we aimed to assess the outcome of temozolomide, alone or in combination with other anticancer medications in patients with advanced pNET.

Ebook "Progress in the chemistry of organic natural products (Volume 107)" presents 40 more erythrinan alkaloids, which were either new or were missed out in the last major reviews, bringing to a total of 154 known erythrinan alkaloids known to date. The reported pharmacological activities of the new and known alkaloids showed a greater bias towards central nervous system and related activities.

To increase the chances of finding efficacious anticancer drugs, improve development times and reduce costs, it is of interest to rank test compounds based on their potential for human use as early as possible in the drug development process. In this paper, we present a method for ranking radiosensitizers using preclinical data.

Patients with advanced pancreatic cancer have a poor prognosis and high burden of cancer-related symptoms. It is necessary to assess the trade-of of clinical benefits and possible harms of treatments with anticancer drugs (TAD). This systematic review aims to compare the effectiveness of TAD versus supportive care or no treatment, considering all patient-important outcomes.

Streptomyces are considered the most potential microbes with the ability to produce antimicrobial and anticancer agents. These bacteria are found mostly in soil across the globe and play a pivotal role in material recycling processes. Isolation of Streptomyces in Vietnam has been conducted for years.

Cephalotaxus mannii Hook.f is a rare medicinal plant used for the treatment of leukemia, however, its fungal endophytes with antibacterial and anticancer properties have not been exploited yet. In this study, six fungal isolates were recovered from roots of C. mannii collected in Ha Giang province, Vietnam.

In this paper, we report the synthesis of five new 4-aza-2,3-didehydropodophyllotoxins by a straightforward multicomponent reaction in the hope of finding new structures with interesting anticancer activity. The novelty in our work is the preparation of quinoline structural compounds of podophyllotoxin derivatives, in two simple steps, having functional groups which are available for further modifications.

Over the past decades, researchers and scientists have paid more and more attention to the discovery of novel antibiotics and anticancer agents in fighting infection and cancer diseases. It is believed that endophytic actinomycetes from medicinal plants provide abundant resources for new compounds with significant bioactive properties. In the present study, we assessed antibacterial and cytotoxic activities of endophytic actinomycetes associated with Litsea cubeba (Lour.) Pers.

Royal jelly (RJ) is reflecting the flora around the apiaries as a result of the foraging activity of honeybees and therefore, pollen analysis could be used to verify its botanical/geographical origin. Colon cancer treatment by means of chemotherapeutics agents reflects a substantial problem for the organism due to high toxicity to other viable cells of the body. To explore a chemopreventive approach to enhancing colon cancer treatment efficacy, the antioxidant and antiproliferative effects of RJ in HT-29 colon cancer cells were assessed.

Nano-sized materials have shown to have very high potential in anticancer therapy by an adequate tuning of their functionalization and physico-chemical properties. This study is focused on the synthesis and characterization of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) functionalized with a titanium(IV) or an organotin(IV) compound (therapeutic agents), fluorescein isothiocyanate (image agent) and transferrin (targeting molecule).

The paper presents a simple and efficient synthesis of a series of new quinazolinone derivatives 8a-h. First, the reaction of 5-hydroxyanthranilic acid (6) with acetic anhydride at 160–180oC for 2 h gave the intermediate 7 in high yield. This intermediate was then reacted with amines in acetic acid at 180 oC for 14 h afforded new quinazolinone derivatives 8a-h in 77–92%.

5-fluorocytosine is a pyrimidine and a fluorinated cytosine analog mainly used as an antifungal agent. It is a precursor of 5-fluorouracil, which possesses anticancer properties. To reduce systemic toxicity of 5-fluorouracil during chemotherapy, 5- fluorocytosine can be used as a targeted anticancer agent.

1,3-Dipolar cycloaddition of 5-azidomethyl-3-p-substituted phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles to phenyl vinyl sulfone and bismaleimide gives rise straightforwardly to 1-((3-(p-substituted) phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazol-5-yl)methyl)-4-(phenylsulfonyl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,3-triazoles and bisdihydropyrrolo[3,4-d][1,2,3]triazole-4,6(3aH,5H)-diones. The structures of the new cycloadducts were elucidated by means of IR, NMR (1H, 13C, 2D), mass spectra, and physical characteristics (mp and Rf values). In addition, anticancer activities of the cycloadducts against MCF-7 cells were also investigated.

The synthesis of a novel series of pyridine and bipyridine derivatives is described via one-pot multicomponent reaction of 5-acetylimidazole, malonitrile (or ethylcyanoacetate or diethylmalonate), substituted benzaldehyde (or terephthaldehyde), and ammonium acetate in good yields. The structures of all the new compounds were elucidated on the basis of elemental analysis and spectral data. The antimicrobial activities of the synthesized compounds were screened and the results showed that most of such compounds exhibit considerable activities.

In addition, the novel bis-(1,2,4-triazole-3-thione) was reacted with the appropriate hydrazonoyl chloride in dioxane under reflux in the presence of triethylamine to give the corresponding bis-(1,2,4-triazolethiohydrazonoate). The structures of the new compounds were established based on elemental and spectral data. The mechanism of the studied reaction was also discussed.

Thiazolylpyrazoline derivatives were recently reported as potent anticancer agents. In this study, novel 1,4-phenylene-bis-N-thiocarbamoylpyrazoles (3a–h) and 1,4-phenylene-bis-pyrazolylthiazoles (5a–h) were prepared and screened for their anticancer activities against C6 (rat brain tumor cells) and HeLa (human uterus carcinoma). Anticancer activity studies were performed as a dose-dependent assay starting with eight concentrations. 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) was used as a positive control.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) applications enable light-controlled activation of drug candidates instead of their constitutive activities to prevent undesired side effects associated with their constant activities. A specific wavelength of light is utilized to enable electron mobility in the chemical structure, which results in differential activities that may alter cell viability and cellular functions. Canonical photodynamic therapy applications mostly focus on cytotoxicity-based antimicrobial and anticancer properties of the PDT agents.
