  • Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common infection seen in clinical practice in all age groups. The UTI is most commonly caused by E.coli. There is emergence of multidrug resistant bacteria because of inadvertent use of antibiotics in treating these infections. The changing trend of pathogens and their antibiotic sensitivity the study has been undertaken, to determine the bacteria causing the UTI and find their antibiotic sensitivity. A total of 200 urine specimens showing the significant bacteriuria are studied. The midstream urine samples collected in a sterile container.

  • Staphylococcus aureus is responsible for widespread infections in the community as well as hospital settings. Rapid emergence of resistance to antibiotics is well known in this organism; particularly in the Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). So present study was carried out to detect current trend in the antibiotic susceptibility of S. aureus isolated from skin and soft tissue infections which in turn will be helpful for choosing empirical antibiotics for these infections. The study was conducted in our tertiary care hospital during the period of January to December 2016.

  • Citrus canker caused by Xanthomonas citri (Hasse) is the major constraint for production of citrus. Two season pooled research data revealed that, plants treated with the spray combination of 2- bromo-2-nitro propane1,3diol (Bactrinashak) + Streptomycin Sulphate + Tetracycline Hydrochloride + COC for four times with 30 days interval recorded the per cent disease incidence of 16 and 14 on leaves and twigs respectively. The maximum PDI of 29 on leaves and 25 on twigs was observed in untreated control. Similar trend was maintained on fruits and recorded higher yield of 17.

  • The aim of the present study was to examine the changes in the trend of antibiotic resistance of organisms from urinary tract infection over a five-year period in our hospital. The data selected were all urine cultures from the hospital urine samples over a five-year period. Results of urine cultures from patients throughout the hospital were analysed and information on susceptibility to four antibiotics i.e., Gentamycin, Amikacin, Ciprofloxacin and Nitrofurantoin was collected.

  • Burn wounds are highly susceptible to colonization and infection which creates obstacle in proper management of burn victims. Since burn wound infection shows changing trends in pathogenicity of microorganisms as well as their antibiotic sensitivity, hence, it is crucial to perform frequent evaluation of the burn wound to ensure early and appropriate therapy in burn patients. The study was conducted to find out the common organisms in infected burn wound samples and their antibiotic sensitivity pattern.

  • Urinary tract infections (UTI) are one of the most common infections that lead to morbidity in humans with Escherichia coli being the most common bacteria. Injudicious use of antibiotics has led to increased resistance of urinary pathogens to otherwise sensitive antibiotics hence; Knowledge of local bacteriological trend the antibiotic susceptibility pattern is a must to initiate a judicious antibiotic treatment. The study was a retrospective analysis of urine samples of IPD patients done over a period of 7 months from June 2017 to Dec 2017.

  • Dermatophytosis is the major health problem in worldwide. The three genera of dermatophytes are Microsporum, Trichophyton and Epidermophyton. Among them, Trichophyton spp are the predominant ones causing infection and also associated with recurrence and resistance to antifungal therapy. The dermatophytic infections affect all age groups. The primary aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of dermatophytosis in SRM MCH & RC between JAN 2017- JAN 2018.

  • A study was carried out in the Department of Soil Science, DRPCAU, Pusa, Bihar during 2014-15 to evaluate physiological properties of Rhizobium isolated from winged bean, pea, gram, lentil and moong. Production of indole acetic acid (IAA), resistance to antibiotics and tolerance to variable pH are some important key concerns for its adaptability to various soil conditions as inoculants. Rhizobia, in general, followed a similar trend towards pH tolerance in terms of growth (measured as OD) i.e., their growth was higher around neutral pH.

  • Ceftriaxone is one of the most commonly used antibiotics due to its high antibacterial potency, wide spectrum of activity and low potential for toxicity. However, the global trend shows misuse of this drug. The aim of this study was to evaluate prospectively the appropriateness of ceftriaxone use in medical and emergency wards of Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital.

  • Infection of sterile body fluid can lead to severe morbidity and mortality. Periodic surveillance and monitoring programmers are helpful for framing the antibiotic policy. The present study was undertaken to evaluate aerobic bacteriological profile along with their antibiogram from various sterile fluids over a period of five years. A total of 1708 body fluid samples were processed according to Standard guidelines and analysed in order to assess the changing trends in bacteriological profile and antibiogram.

  • Non-fermenting gram-negative bacilli (NFGNB) are an emerging problem in Blood stream infections. A major concern is multi-drug resistance which severely limits treatment options. Earlier it was believed to be non pathogenic, but recently they are more frequently isolated as primary pathogen. Usually they cause hospital acquired infection (HAI). A prospective study was conducted to isolate the NFGNB from blood samples, to identify the risk factors leading to blood stream infections and to determine the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of them.

  • Historically, S. aureus has been one of the most common pathogens which caused pyogenic local and systemic infections in both hospitals and community. Methicillin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus is associated with multidrug resistance, an aggressive course, increased mortality and morbidity in both community and health care facilities. This cross sectional study was carried out in a 70 burn patients from May 2016 to July 2018 at DR.S.C.G.M.C, Nanded India. Swabs were taken and cultured for bacterial isolation and identification following standard operative procedures.

  • About a dozen mothers sit on gurneys and nurse newborns in a ward that is nothing more than a long, open room. Two nurses in starched, white uniforms walk the hallway wearily. They work thirteen-hour shifts, four days a week, and earn the equivalent of $25 a week. The hospital lacks oxygen equipment, thermometers, blood pressure machines, and basic pharmaceuticals such as antibiotics. Patients are asked to bring their own drugs if they can afford them. Equipment in surgical suites is old and worn, with rubber cracked and crumbling....

  • The enormous consumption of antibiotics for these illnesses has contributed to the rise in antibiotic resistance among common community-acquired pathogens such as Streptococcus pneumoniae—a trend that in itself has had an enormous influence on public health. Although most URIs are caused by viruses, distinguishing patients with primary viral infection from those with primary bacterial infection is difficult. Signs and symptoms of bacterial and viral URIs are, in fact, indistinguishable.
