Ebook "Bleach plant effluents from the pulp and paper industry" covers bleach plant effluents, that most polluting effluent from the pulp and paper industry. Disappearance of benthic invertebrates, a high incidence of fish diseases, and mutagenic effects on the aquatic fauna are some of the consequences of the disposal of bleach effluents into surface waters.

Aquaponics combines two technologies, recirculating aquaculture systems and hydroponics in a closed system. The nutrients recycled from fish tanks supply nutrients for vegetables grown in hydroponics, however in some cases, the nutrient levels may not be sufficient for the optimal growth and yield of plants.

Studying leaves of aquatic and terrestrial populations of Phragmites australis grown on the bank of the Venetian strait of the Dnipro River in Kyiv (Ukraine) for establishing the role of bulliform cells in the mechanisms of plant resistance to moderate soil drought were studied. Bulliform (motor) cells participate in the twisting and folding of leaves during drought and strong sunlight. The study of bulliform cells in the leaves of the aquatic and terrestrial populations of P.

Anti-androgens entering the aquatic environment, e.g., by effluents from wastewater treatment plants or agricultural settings are contributing to endocrine disruption in wildlife and humans. Due to the simultaneous presence of agonistic compounds, common in vitro bioassays can underestimate the risk posed by androgen antagonists.

Najas indica (Willd.) Cham. is a freshwater submerged aquatic vegetation. N. indica is an annual plant. Therefore, seeds in the sediment and the survival and growth of seedlings play an important role in reestablishing new populations of the species. The purpose of this study was to determine the seed density in the sediment, examine the effect of salinity on seedling germination from seeds, and assess the impact of the salinity on the growth of early seedlings of N. indica under the experimental condition.

This present study carried out sample collections along the coast of Southern Viet Nam, including the coast sites, offshore islands, and Spratly (Truong Sa) islands. External morphological and anatomical characteristics of two dominant species, Halimeda macroloba and H. opuntia, were caparisoned. The genetic marker tufA was applied to find the haplotype diversity and network among Vietnamese and worldwide populations.

This study "Aquatic plants (Azolla filiculoides, Azolla pinnata, Landoltia punctata) and protists, thraustochytrids as renewable and sustainable sources of protein, phenolic, carotenoids and omega-3 fatty acids" provides important information on culturing Azolla (A. filiculoides and A. pinnata), duckweed (L. punctata) and thraustochytrids. It also represents a comprehensive analysis of two Azolla species (A. filiculoides and A. pinnata), one duckweed species (L. punctata) and two new thraustochytrids, all of which are capable of producing valuable biomolecules.

Phytoremediation is a method of using plants to extract, isolate or detoxify pollutants through chemical, physical and biological processes. For years, this method has been considered as an effective method for wastewater treatment thanks to its high efficiency, low cost, stability, and simplicity of operation. Besides, this wastewater treatment technology is environmentally friendly since it increases biodiversity and contributesto the landscape of the environment and local ecosystems.

In parallel with these results, the diagrams of Gibbs et al. supported the same seawater intrusion phenomena. Brackish karst springs first roseand then fell below sea level with epirogenic movements during the geological period, and therefore, karstification progressed. The samples were oversaturated with calcite, dolomite, and quartz, whereas they were undersaturated with gypsum and halite. The Al, Cu, and Zn values of some of the water samples exceeded the tolerance limit of aquatic life standards.

Aquatic macroinvertebrates have a close relationship with associated floating macrophytes, especially with the roots. The plant root mass is an environment favorable to the development of the macroinvertebrate fauna, supplying both food resources and refuge against predators. The present study aimed to analyze the structure of the macroinvertebrate community associated with the roots of Eichhornia azurea (Sw.) Kunth (Pontederiaceae) in a lake marginal to a tropical river. Sampling was performed quarterly in three stands of E. azurea.

Zannichellia L. (Potamogetonaceae) is a widespread aquatic genus that is distributed in temperate and subtropical aquatic ecosystems worldwide. Because the biogeographical location of Iran includes mountain ranges and deserts that may cause different habitat types, it was assumed that these Zannichellia populations would be stronger differentiated than observed in Zannichellia from temperate regions. The present study aimed to test whether Z. palustris would demonstrate high levels of genetic differentiation over long distances and across mountain ranges.

Euryale ferox Salisb., an annual aquatic plant, is the only species in the genus Euryale in the Nymphaeaceae. Seeds of E. ferox are a nutritious food and also used in traditional Chinese medicine (Qian Shi in Mandarin). The molecular events that occurred during seed development in E. ferox have not yet been characterized. In this study, we performed transcriptomic analysis of four developmental stages (T1, T2, T3, and T4) in E. ferox seeds with three biological replicates per developmental stage to understand the physiological and biochemical processes during E. ferox seeds development.
