Ebook "Mound centers and seed security: A comparative analysis of botanical assemblages from middle woodland sites in the lower illinois valley" integrates an interpretation of these two historical trends. Unlike most journal articles on related subjects, the volume includes a lengthy review of literature on both Hopewell studies and Middle Woodland agriculture, making it a useful resource for researchers starting out in either field.

This paper presents an overview of the existing terms, conventions and clashes among ideas, and will conclude that despite the existing international conventions and several definitions for underwater cultural heritage, still a more lucid terminology and defining methodology is required for the cultural heritage under waterin order to improve our management strategies.

In the recent past, there has been encroachment on the site by people, a factor that has depleted vegetation cover in and around the site, hence threatening the fossil resources. Extraction of forest products, overgrazing and cultivation has contributed to damage of the sediments. Most of the fossils have been exposed, eroded and vandalized.

This paper presents a micro-structural analysis from a house of the Pucara de Tilcara, one of the most important archaeological sites of the Argentina northwestern region. These results reconstruct the biography of a dwelling space during the last pre-Hispanic period. Beyond its constitution like a preinca dwell space we identify its reconfiguration to become a house-workshop for the production of luxury goods after Inca domination, and its posterior abandonment and reoccupation as a burial place.

The results indicate that diagenesis did not influence concentrations of Pb, Cu, Zn, Ca or Sr, and that there was no significant difference in accumulation of these elements between humerus and femur. Sr:Ca and Zn:Ca ratios indicated vastly different diets in the two periods. The occurrence of high levels of Cu (1368.64 mg/kg d.w.) in a humerus from the Copper Age sample possibly due to exposure during copper smelting, was a very interesting outcome.

The caves and surrounding stones act like a musical box amplifying the natural sounds present and it is possible the natural caves could have been modified to enhance this aspect. Similar natural characteristics were also discovered at other archaeological sites in Europe and Asia, including Epidauros in Greece and Göbekli Tepe in Turkey. This is the third and final article on results of our researches in Malta e Gozo islands (Mediterranean Sea) from archaeoacoustic point of view.

Comparison of the sizes of burnt rice seeds from archaeological sites in Northern Vietnam indicates that rice seeds mainly belong to the round plump (short round) type, which includes summer glutinous rice and field glutinous rice. These findings suggest that rice became a popular crop in the life of ancient Vietnamese as early as 3,000 years ago, and was widely distributed in the North of the country.

There is more direct evidence of domestication of the South American camelids than of the old world ones. The archaeological evidence suggests that llama and alpaca were domesticated at very high altitudes of 4000 to 5000 m in the Andes of southern Peru and western Bolivia. An approximate time of first domestication would be about 6000 years BP. This period has been based on changes in the type of molar teeth and the increasing numbers of bones of young as compared to old animals found at archaeological sites. ...

The genus Camelus was probably among the last of the major domestic species to be put to regular use by man. There is a little direct evidence for an exact time of domestication, mainly because the camel has changed relatively little as a result of selection and, whereas it is possible at archaeological sites to observe the changes in other species, this is not the case for camels. Since the early camel owners were nomadic, they left few permanent mementoes of their presence. The most likely time of domestication, however, is about 4000 years BP (before present).

The author would scarcely have penned this little specimen of what Scott called "antiquarian old womanries," but for the interest which he takes in the universally diffused archaic patterns on rocks and stones, which offer a singular proof of the identity of the working of the human mind. Anthropology and folklore are the natural companions and aids of prehistoric and proto-historic archaeology, and suggest remarks which may not be valueless, whatever view we may take of the disputed objects from the Clyde sites.
