We aim to report a case of chest wall rigidity induced by high-dose fentanyl infusion sedation and analgesia in the intensive care unit (ICU) for management of pneumonia and asthma. Fentanyl-induced chest wall rigidity is an important side effect that needs to be considered in the differential diagnosis of respiratory failure in the ICU.

This study introduces a temporal condition pattern mining methodology to address the sparse nature of coded condition concept utilization in electronic health record data. As a validation study, we applied this method to reveal condition patterns surrounding an initial diagnosis of pediatric asthma.

Tests to identify reversible airflow limitation are important in asthma diagnosis, but they are time-consuming and it may be difficult for patients to cooperate. We aimed to evaluate whether the combination of fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) and blood eosinophil (B-Eos) can be used to distinguish some asthma patients who could avoid objective tests.

Objective measurement of airflow obstruction by spirometry is an essential part of the diagnosis of asthma or COPD. During exacerbations, the feasibility and utility of spirometry to confirm the diagnosis of asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are unclear.

The prevalence of physician-diagnosed-asthma has risen over the past three decades and misdiagnosis of asthma is potentially common. Objective: to determine whether a secondary-screening-program to establish a correct diagnosis of asthma in those who report a physician diagnosis of asthma is cost effective.

Improvements in asthma diagnosis and management require deeper understanding of the heterogeneity of the complex airway inflammation. We hypothesise that differences in the two major inflammatory phenotypes of asthma; eosinophilic and neutrophilic asthma, will be reflected in the lung protein expression profile of murine asthma models and can be delineated using proteomics of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL).

In epidemiological studies of asthma, questionnaires to differentiate asthmatics from non-asthmatics have proven to be cost-effective and convenient. The aim of this study was to analyze the association between hyperresponsiveness to methacholine and the validity of five items for the asthma like questionnaire recommended by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA).

The prevalence of asthma is sharply increasing in pediatric population and has become a global burden of medicine and economics. Nevertheless, evidence for the diagnostic criteria of this condition is still lacking. This condition leads to over-diagnosis of asthma in cases, especially younger children. Stridor and wheezing, pathologic signs of airway obstruction, are sometimes mistakenly identified. As a result, disorders of extra-thoracic airway obstruction may be misdiagnosed with intrathoracic diseases.

Overcrowding and unfavorable environment causes various adverse effects on human and animal health i.e. new vector borne diseases, skin problem like allergy, asthma. Several times many untreatable viral disease becomes a serious death threat in many countries. Nipah virus emerged in humans in 1998 in Malaysia, with pigs as the intermediate host. Nipah virus was later also identified in India and Bangladesh in 2001, with the flying fox (Pteropus spp.) as the natural host, although no intermediary animal host was found in outbreaks there.

: The diagnosis of childhood asthma covers a broad spectrum of pathological mechanisms that can lead to similarly presenting clinical symptoms, but may nonetheless require different treatment approaches. Distinct underlying inflammatory patterns are thought to influence responsiveness to standard asthma medication.

The diagnosis and management of asthma in young children can be challenging since there are many different types of wheezing associated with numerous underlying disorders. In order to assist clinicians, the Vietnamese clinical practice guideline for asthma was revised in 2018 by the members of Vietnam Respiratory Society and Medical Services Administration, under the Ministry of Health.

Special challenges that must be taken into account in managing asthma in children in the first 5 years of life include difficulties with diagnosis, the efficacy and safety of drugs and drug delivery systems, and the lack of data on new therapies. Patients in this age group are often managed by pediatricians who are routinely faced with a wide variety of issues related to childhood diseases. Therefore, for the convenience of readers this Executive Summary extracts sections of the report that pertain to diagnosis and management of asthma in children 5 years and younger.
