Asymptomatic bacteriuria
-
Current evidence does not recommend screening urine culture and curing asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) before joint arthroplasty. The bacteriuria count on pre-operative urinalysis is a more common clinical parameter. We aimed to investigate whether the bacteriuria count on preoperative urinalysis can increase postoperative wound complications in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA).

Urinary tract infection is one of the most frequently seen medical complications in pregnancy. Related to it further a number of complications such as acute and chronic pyelonephritis, hypertension, prematurity, intrauterine growth retardation and increased perinatal mortality. The detection of bacteriuria allows an approach to be made for the prevention of complications in pregnancy at an early stage. In view of the above, the present study was under taken with an aim to detect asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy. Two hundred antenatal women were included in the study.

To isolate the bacterial pathogens causing asymptomatic bacteriuria in antenatal women,to study the drug resistance pattern and prevalence of MRSA and ESBL producers. Bacterial pathogens were isolated from 1000 urine samples collected from antenatal women following standard procedures. All the isolates were studied for antibiotic susceptibility pattern using modified Kirby bauer disc diffusion method. Resistant isolates were identified and studied for MRSA and ESBL by various methods. Out of 1000 urine samples culture positive were 118(11.8%). E.

The aim of the study was to compare the diagnostic performance of urine microscopy, leucocyte esterase and nitrite dipstick tests as screening tests for asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy with the gold standard urine culture. 1000 Antenatal women attending OPD at Govt. Kilpauk medical college were screened for asymptomatic bacteriuria and the bacteria isolated by culture .A count of > 105 colony-forming units of a single organism per millilitre of urine was taken as significant.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most common human bacterial infection in the community as well as in hospital settings (Vijaya Swetha et al., 2014). Urinary tract infection during pregnancy may cause complications such as pyelonephritis, hypertensive disease of pregnancy, anaemia, chronic renal failure, premature delivery and foetal mortality (Moyo et al., 2010).

This study therefore was carried out to determine the prevalence of Asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) in pregnant women and to isolate, identify the causative organisms; and to test the antimicrobial susceptibility of isolated pathogens. A total of 200 pregnant women who came for ante-natal checkup in outpatient department at Govt. Maternity Hospital, Nayapool. Hyderabad were studied over a period of one year.

Benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH) is a non- malignant condition characterized by proliferation of prostatic cells leading to an increase in prostate size, urethral obstruction, and lower urinary tract symptoms. For men, prostate hypertrophy with bladder outlet obstruction is reported to be the major predisposing factor for the development of asymptomatic bacteriuria.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common disease affecting especially infants and young children. The clinical presentations are diverse, from an unaffected infant with asymptomatic bacteriuria to a severely septic child. Accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment is important for the prevention of long-term morbidity and sequelae (e.g. hypertension, proteinuria, and chronic kidney disease). The purpose of the present study was to determine the validity of rapidly diagnostic tests for the early detection of UTIs in paediatric patients. Total 247 midstream urine specimens were processed.
