Autism symptoms

Children with autism spectrum disorder “are people under the age of 16 with a distinct symptom of neurodevelopmental disorder caused by impairments in social interaction and communication, express shaped behavior and have one of restricted functions in their lives”. Based on the list of children’s developmental behavioral disorders applied at the National Children’s Hospital, the article focuses on 3 main groups of difficulties of children with autism spectrum disorder, including emotion, cognitiveness - behavior and social communication.

As part of the project we follow an ascertainment protocol which involves several measures and procedures. Parents or guardians must complete an informed consent form with the help of a psychologist or social worker. Subsequently, parents are interviewed using the Vineland Behavior Adaptive Scales, a structured interview about adaptive behavior (observed communication, social behavior, and daily living skills at home and in the community).

Study differences in experimental design, including choice of spectral bands, brain regions, brain states (activated or resting) and type of analysis, as well as small sample sizes, differences in sample age ranges, diversityofseverityofimpairment, lack of replication tests and disparity of results make difficult a meaningful summary of spectral coherence findings in ASD. Furthermore, few studies considered the reality of ASD group-specific EEG artifacts, including eye blink and muscle movement, and their potential spurious effects upon coherence.
