Background concentrations

We analyzed 39 gas samples, including carbon dioxide, hydrocarbon gases C1–C4, hydrogen, and helium, in surface sediment from 19 gravity cores collected from the SW sub-basin of the East Vietnam Sea (EVS) using the headspace and vacuum degassing methods. Based on the result, we discussed the distribution and origin of gases in the southwest sub-basin EVS surface sediments.

The drinking water limit of 60 μg/L has been estimated on the premise of its radiological concern. A guideline concentration of 2 μg/L is recommended in Japan while 1700 μg/L in Russia. The relative merit of different experimental assumption, scientific approach and its methodology adopted for derivation of guideline value of uranium in drinking water in India and other countries is discussed in the paper.

A new capillary electrophoresis method was developed for the simultaneous determination of dexpanthenol (DEX), lidocaine (LID), and mepyramine (MEP) in pharmaceutical preparations. The best results were obtained using 20 mM (pH 3.0) phosphate buffer as the background electrolyte. Separation was obtained using a fused-silica capillary (75 µm internal diameter, 50 cm total length, 41 cm effective length) and a potential of +30 kV at 20 ◦ C. Standards and samples were injected using a pressure injection at 50 mbar for 5 s and the analytes were monitored at a detection wavelength of 200 nm.

Economic independency is a key factor for social and cultural empowerment of women. Rearing small scale Vanaraja chicken can be promising for nutritional security and subsidiary income. Rearing indigenous chickens traditionally in Assam faces inherent constraints like low production, high mortalities hindering lucrative return. Realizing needs and to avert aberrant practices demonstrations on raising Vanaraja chickens in semiintensive system (30 chicks to each of 40 farmers) were conducted in farmers’ backyards. During brooding, limited concentrate feeding was done for 2 weeks.

This study aims to evaluate the differences between PM2.5, PAHs concentration, PAHs species, and their gas/ particle partitioning in an urban background site as opposed to another background site. Saigon zoo was selected as a representative of the urban background site (UBS), and the Can Gio mangrove reserve was selected as the other background site (BS). PM2.5 and gas and particle-phase PAHs samples were collected at the UBS between March 2017 and February 2018, while the samples were collected at the BS for one week in the dry season (April) and in the rainy season (October).

This study presents a practical application of complementary safety indicators, which can be applied in a safety assessment of a radioactive waste repository by excluding a biosphere simulation and comparing the artificial radiation originating from the repository with the background natural radiation. Complementary safety indicators (radiotoxicity flux from geosphere and radiotoxicity concentration in seawater) were applied in the safety assessment of a rock-cavern type low and intermediate level radioactive waste (LILW) repository in the Republic of Korea.

Background concentrations of the heavy metals Mn, Ni, Cd, Co, Zn, Cu, and Pb in the soils and plant monitors of the Boatin Reserve were determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). Surface soil layers of the Boatin Reserve were polluted with Cu, as its concentration exceeded both the national legal standards and the content of Cu in nonpolluted areas.

Both masters’ programs in epidemiology consist of coursework and a thesis. Master’s students complete a minimum of 64 credits in epidemiology and elective courses, pass a written comprehensive exam, write a 30-50 page publishable manuscript and present their research in a Master’s Poster Symposium. Sampling and analysis of local well water and surface soil gas (Strutt et al., 2005) were performed at the Weyburn field. The primary objectives of the soil gas analyses were to measure the natural background concentrations of CO2 and to ascertain whether CO2 or associated reservoir tracer gases were escaping to the near surface. Samples were collected three times over the course of two years on a regular spatial grid; additional samples that could represent possible vertical migration pathways were also collected at other sites in the surrounding area.

Maryland. Repace (2005) measured outdoor fine particle and carcinogen concentrations from OTS on the campus of the University of Maryland at Baltimore. Using controlled experiments, Repace (2005) found that cigarette smoke RSP concentrations decline approximately inversely with distance downwind from the point source, whereas cigarette smoke carcinogen concentrations decline approximately inversely as the square of the distance from source to receptor.
