  • We analyzed 39 gas samples, including carbon dioxide, hydrocarbon gases C1–C4, hydrogen, and helium, in surface sediment from 19 gravity cores collected from the SW sub-basin of the East Vietnam Sea (EVS) using the headspace and vacuum degassing methods. Based on the result, we discussed the distribution and origin of gases in the southwest sub-basin EVS surface sediments.

  • The drinking water limit of 60 μg/L has been estimated on the premise of its radiological concern. A guideline concentration of 2 μg/L is recommended in Japan while 1700 μg/L in Russia. The relative merit of different experimental assumption, scientific approach and its methodology adopted for derivation of guideline value of uranium in drinking water in India and other countries is discussed in the paper.

  • A new capillary electrophoresis method was developed for the simultaneous determination of dexpanthenol (DEX), lidocaine (LID), and mepyramine (MEP) in pharmaceutical preparations. The best results were obtained using 20 mM (pH 3.0) phosphate buffer as the background electrolyte. Separation was obtained using a fused-silica capillary (75 µm internal diameter, 50 cm total length, 41 cm effective length) and a potential of +30 kV at 20 ◦ C. Standards and samples were injected using a pressure injection at 50 mbar for 5 s and the analytes were monitored at a detection wavelength of 200 nm.

  • The two dominant networking models are the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) and the Internet model (TCP/IP).The first is a theoretical framework; the second is the actual model used in today's data communications. In Chapter 2, we first discuss the OSI model to give a general background. We then concentrate on the Internet model, which is the foundation for the rest of the lecture.

  • Economic independency is a key factor for social and cultural empowerment of women. Rearing small scale Vanaraja chicken can be promising for nutritional security and subsidiary income. Rearing indigenous chickens traditionally in Assam faces inherent constraints like low production, high mortalities hindering lucrative return. Realizing needs and to avert aberrant practices demonstrations on raising Vanaraja chickens in semiintensive system (30 chicks to each of 40 farmers) were conducted in farmers’ backyards. During brooding, limited concentrate feeding was done for 2 weeks.

  • In this chapter, we turn our attention to option valuation issues. To understand most option valuation models requires considerable mathematical and statistical background. Still, many of the ideas and insights of these models can be demonstrated in simple examples, and we will concentrate on these.

  • This study aims to evaluate the differences between PM2.5, PAHs concentration, PAHs species, and their gas/ particle partitioning in an urban background site as opposed to another background site. Saigon zoo was selected as a representative of the urban background site (UBS), and the Can Gio mangrove reserve was selected as the other background site (BS). PM2.5 and gas and particle-phase PAHs samples were collected at the UBS between March 2017 and February 2018, while the samples were collected at the BS for one week in the dry season (April) and in the rainy season (October).

  • This study presents a practical application of complementary safety indicators, which can be applied in a safety assessment of a radioactive waste repository by excluding a biosphere simulation and comparing the artificial radiation originating from the repository with the background natural radiation. Complementary safety indicators (radiotoxicity flux from geosphere and radiotoxicity concentration in seawater) were applied in the safety assessment of a rock-cavern type low and intermediate level radioactive waste (LILW) repository in the Republic of Korea.

  • Background concentrations of the heavy metals Mn, Ni, Cd, Co, Zn, Cu, and Pb in the soils and plant monitors of the Boatin Reserve were determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). Surface soil layers of the Boatin Reserve were polluted with Cu, as its concentration exceeded both the national legal standards and the content of Cu in nonpolluted areas.

  • The most effective concentration of MSA was 5 mg L-1 at the pH range of 3.5 to 5 and electrolyte background of 0.01 molc L-1. Out of this pH range or at higher electrolyte backgrounds, clay suspension is more strongly favored or prohibited; the effect of MSA was usually hidden.

  • And what effect do these industrial shifts have on the employability of city residents? The transformation has favored a more educated labor force over blue-collar or entry- level workers, and it has been most pronounced in the Northeast and Midwest, which house the greatest concentration of minority groups (Moss and Tilly, 1991; Kasarda, 1985, 1989, 1990).

In 2009, 46% of the students were born outside of Australia, approximately 30% were from a non-English speaking background, and 21% were enrolled as international students. In 2009, the faculties with the largest concentrations of international students were Business (34%) and Engineering and Information Technology (29%).

  • Available primarily as an emulsifiable concentrate, these materials are used mainly as space sprays for fly control. About 6 million square feet of the area in North Carolina poultry houses (3 percent) are treated with pyrethrins. The insecticide (synergized with PBO) is generally applied at a rate of 0.0002 to 0.001 pound of active ingredient per 1,000 cubic feet of volume. It is used to treat 6 percent of breeders and layers for mites and lice at a rate of approximately 0.01 pound of active ingredient per 100 birds.

  • This textbook is intended to be an introductory text on the mechanics of solids. The authors have targeted an audience that usually would go on to obtain undergraduate degrees in aerospace and mechanical engineering. As such, some specialized topics that are of importance to aerospace engineers are given more coverage. The material presented assumes only a background in introductory physics and calculus. The presentation departs from standard practice in a fundamental way.

  • This review highlights the importance of play, particularly outdoor play, for increasing levels of physical activity, alongside other positive influences on a child’s well-being, such as opportunities to understand and respect the natural world. However, children seem to be getting fewer opportunities to play. A combination of poor play environments, busy school schedules and an increase in structured activities has meant that this beneficial and basic children’s right has become sidelined, often perceived as an ‘unaffordable luxury’ (Elkind 2008).

  • The department provides broad training in general epidemiology and in one of nine areas of concentration detailed on the next page. Both masters’ programs in epidemiology consist of coursework and a thesis. Master’s students complete a minimum of 64 credits in epidemiology and elective courses, pass a written comprehensive exam, write a 30-50 page publishable manuscript and present their research in a Master’s Poster Symposium. The programs differ in breadth and scope depending on the student’s background and research focus within and after the program.

  • Consumer protection law and criminal law have both received considerable analysis from academic lawyers. The role of legal intervention with the aim of protecting the consumer has come in for scrutiny in a number of seminal works, many of which concentrate upon the role of consumer law in the marketplace. The role of criminal law has also been discussed by a large number of leading commentators, with particular attention being paid to the boundaries of criminal sanctions, and particular concern being addressed to increasing criminalisation.

  • Sampling and analysis of local well water and surface soil gas (Strutt et al., 2005) were performed at the Weyburn field. The primary objectives of the soil gas analyses were to measure the natural background concentrations of CO2 and to ascertain whether CO2 or associated reservoir tracer gases were escaping to the near surface. Samples were collected three times over the course of two years on a regular spatial grid; additional samples that could represent possible vertical migration pathways were also collected at other sites in the surrounding area.

  • Maryland. Repace (2005) measured outdoor fine particle and carcinogen concentrations from OTS on the campus of the University of Maryland at Baltimore. Using controlled experiments, Repace (2005) found that cigarette smoke RSP concentrations decline approximately inversely with distance downwind from the point source, whereas cigarette smoke carcinogen concentrations decline approximately inversely as the square of the distance from source to receptor.
