The study aimed to isolate oil-degrading bacterial strains from the contaminated soil of Cam Ranh, Khanh Hoa, and develop a robust indigenous bacterial consortium for bioremediation of crude oil pollution. From a total of seven oil-polluted soil samples collected in Cam Ranh, after 3-fold enrichment in liquid mineral salt medium containing 5% crude oil mixed in diesel DO (w/v), 7 bacterial isolates were achieved.

In this research, a combined photocatalytic and biological treatment is proposed for the elimination of pollutants present in textile wastewater using a natural erionite zeolite (PE) and aluminum oxide (PA) synthesized by the sol-gel method as photocatalysts, and solar radiation. Both catalysts were characterized by XRD, SEM, and EDS. For biological treatment two bacterial consortium were used: BC1 (Escherichia coli N16, Serratia k120, Pseudomonas putida B03 and Enterobacter hormaechei), and consortium BC2 (Escherichia coli N16, Serratia Mc107, Enterobacter N9, Enterobacter hormaechei Mc9).

The bacterial isolates formed the basis of a consortium represented by 1:1 proportion and exhibited ability to reduce biological oxygen demand of the petrochemical wastewater by 88% under immobilized condition in laboratory. Response surface methodology-based optimization revealed a reduction of 93.33% biological oxygen demand within 12 h from simulated wastewater at 37◦C which had a starting concentration of 400 mg L− 1 of toluene.

The degradation characteristics of phenanthrene (Phe), pyrene (Pyr) and benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) in freeze-thawed soil by both co-immobilized and free microorganism were studied. The removal rate of Phe, Pyr and BaP using the co-immobilized fungal-bacterial consortium within 60 d was 59.2±3.7%, 46.6±3.3%, and 36.8±2.7%, respectively, which was obviously higher than that of free fungal-bacterial consortium in the same time.

This microbial consortium degraded 2,537.34 ngTEQ/kg of 2,3,7,8-TCDD congener in soil, equivalent to 59.1% lost of total toxicity in comparison to the control without bacterial seeding (4,294.12 ng TEQ/kg). A developed bacterial consortium showed potential for decolourization of two simulated wastewaters containing 1:1 metal complex acid dyes namely, Acid blue 158 and Acid black 52, separately. Ability of decolourization was found up to 1300-1650 mg L-1 of cumulative dye concentration in a fed batch system along with faster decolourization rate in batch mode at 100 mg L-1 concentration. Chromium removal efficiency of consortium showed metal sorption on bacterial cells.

Petroleum-based products are the major source of energy for industry and daily life. Leaks and accidental spills occur regularly during the exploration, production, refining, transport, and storage of petroleum and petroleum products. Crude oil-impacted tropical soil and natural water samples (0 - 30cm depth) were obtained from the Niger Delta, Nigeria. A total of twenty seven bacterial species of relevance in bioremediation were isolated and characterized using standard and conventional methods. The predominant species belong to the genera Pseudomonas and Proteus.

Combined soil application of Bio NPK and pesticides either simultaneous and sequential can enhanced plant growth parameters effectively and most of the pesticides tested viz. Profenofos 50% EC, Spinosad 45% SC, Dichlorvos 76% EC, Imidacloprid 30.5% EC, Fipronil 5% SC, Chlorpyrifos 20% EC, Pyraclotrobin 20% WG, Ridomil 68% WP, Quizalofop 5% EC and Finoxaprop 9% EC found safe to beneficial bacteria at the field recommended dose exhibiting no reduction of bacterial population compared with untreated control.

Endophytes are the micro-organism which shares the life long relation with the host. The bacterial endophytes promote the growth directly and indirectly by several mechanisms. Keeping in mind, the present investigation has been carried out to evaluate the bacterial endophytes for their plant growth promotion in vitro condition. Four screened bacterial antagonists viz., SVC 11, BE 1, NGB 21 and M1W1 were evaluated for the germination and the vigour of French bean, brinjal and rapeseed mustard seeds. The bacteria were used individual as well as in consortium mode on the respective seeds.

In the present investigation total 167 non rhizobial endophytic bacterial isolates from roots of chickpea were collected and screened for qualitative P solubilization. Out of these 37 potential bacterial endophytic isolates from root were selected for further quantitative Psolubilization, Indole acetic acid (IAA), Gibberelic acid and ACC deaminase production. High P-solubilization was recorded in isolate RBR20 (20.60 mg100ml1 ). Maximum amount of IAA was produced by isolate LCRE 9 (39.60 μgml-1 ) (presence of tryptophan) and RBR164 (19.93 μgml-1 ) (absence of tryptophan).
