Anastomosis group 1 IA (AG1-IA) of Rhizoctonia solani is the major agent of banded leaf and sheath blight (BLSB) disease that causes severe yield loss in many worldwide crops. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are ~ 22 nt noncoding RNAs that negatively regulate gene expression levels by mRNA degradation or translation inhibition.

The field experiment was conducted during Kharif 2019 at SG College of Agriculture and Research Station, Jagdalpur, IGKV, Raipur (CG), to identify the resistant genotypes for banded blight (Rhizoctonia solani). Result revealed that none of the genotype was found free from banded blight disease.

Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn (Teleomorph: Thanatephorus cucumeris) is a soil borne, polyphagous, necrotrophic plant pathogenic fungus with a wide host range. It is causing sheath blight disease on a wide range of Graminae plant hosts and causes considerable losses in yield. It incites banded sheath blight disease in small millets, with its characteristic copper brown band symptoms. Fifty three isolates of Rhizoctonia solani were obtained from four different small millets showing typical symptoms of the disease.

The basic aim of the investigation was to screen the potential of Trichoderma harzianum for bio suppression of Rhizoctonia solani f. sp. sassaki, the causal agent of banded leaf and sheath blight of maize which is one of the most destructive diseases of Bihar. The disease severity ranging from 30.30 to 80.46 per cent and gaining the economic importance now a day. Maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the most important cereal crops in the world agricultural economy as food, feed and industrial products. It is a miracle C4 crop and has a very high yield potential.

This study aimed to finding best carbon and nitrogen sources that would allow maximum growth and antibiotic production of P. fluorescens AS15 for improving its bio control potentiality against banded leaf and sheath blight pathogen. The growth medium has a profound effect on growth and active metabolite production. The accurate incorporation of nutrients enhanced growth as well as antagonistic behavior of bio control agents (Slininger et al., 1996).

Banded Leaf and Sheath Blight (BLSB) disease caused by Rhizoctonia solani f. sp. sasakii Exner was studied in 22 inbred lines and 12 hybrids at the Regional Agricultural Research Station farm, Lam, Guntur, during rabi 2014-15 for evaluating resistance. Out of 22 inbred lines, PFSR9-2 had shown resistant reaction whereas PFSR6-1, PFSR6-2 and PFSR18 were found to be moderately resistant to BLSB disease.

Maize is the 3rd most important crop in the Bihar next to rice and wheat. It is grown throughout the year in one or other part of state. Due to continuous cropping of maize and other factors like improper use of fertilizers, pesticides and climate change, the disease problem has increased in tremendous proportion. Almost all parts of the maize plant are susceptible to numerous diseases that considerably reduce the yield and quality of the crop.

been reported, of these, 65 are known to occur in India (Saxena, 2002). Banded leaf and sheath blight (BLSB) of maize is one of the most widespread and destructive disease of maize in Southeast Asian countries. The disease was first described and reported from Sri Lanka (Bertus, 1927) as sclerotial disease of maize caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn.

Banded leaf and Sheath blight of maize caused by Rhizoctonia solani f.sp. Sasakii [teleomorph: Thanatephorus cucumeris] is of worldwide occurrence and is known to cause substantial yield losses. It is a major production constraint in high yielding varieties under intensive maize production systems. The pathogen has a very wide host range and exhibits considerable pathogenic and molecular variability. Due to non-availability of highly resistant cultivars, the management of banded leaf and sheath blight primarily relies on chemical control.
