  • The paper presents a numerical method to simulate two-phase turbulent cavitating flows in ducts of varying cross-section usually faced in engineering. The method is based on solution of two-phase Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations of two-phase mixture. The numerical method uses artificial compressibility algorithm extended to unsteady flows with dual-time technique.

  • In this paper, the buckling and post-buckling behaviors of eccentrically stiffened functionally graded material (ES-FGM) plates on elastic foundations subjected to in-plane compressive loads or thermal loads are investigated by an analytical solution. The novelty of this work is that FGM plates are reinforced by FGM stiffeners and the temperature, stiffener, foundation are considered. The first-order shear deformation plate theory is used.

  • In this paper, the free vibration of functionally sandwich grades plates with stiffeners is investigated by using the finite element method. The material properties are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction by a power-law distribution.   • In this study, instrumented indentation testing was conducted at room temperature for the investigation of the effect of strain rate on the hardness and yield strength in the weld zone of a commonly used structural steel, SM520. A number of indentation tests were undertaken at a number of strain rate values from 0.02 s −1 to 0.2 s −1 in the weld metal (WM), heat-affected zone (HAZ), and base metal (BM) regions of the weld zone.

  • The blends based on polyvinyl chloride (PVC), nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR), natural rubber (NR) and polyethylene (PE) were made by three different methods. The mechanical properties of these blends in dependence of mixing time and temperature were characterized. The result showed that the two-step blending method, where PVC and NBR were first mixed together and then blended with NR and PE, is the best one to prepare blends with high mechanical properties.

  • This study evaluates the displacement sensitivity of a new compliant microgripper. The microgripper is designed based on a four-bar mechanism and the concept of a compliant mechanism. The effects of the width of the right circular hinge, the thickness of microgripper, and the material properties on the dis-placement sensitivity are considered via using the finite element method. In the beginning, the stress and deformation of the compliant microgripper are evaluated.

  • In the manufacturing field of sheet products, such as paper, cigarette package, packing box, printed circuit board (PCB), solar silicon chip and so on, the detection of laminated sheet is an essential part. The precision of the counting directly affects the economic benefit of the factory and the subsequent production operation. In order to reduce the high cost and noise in mechanical paper counters, paper counting algorithms based on the gray value difference of paper have been applied and tested to solve these problems based only on vision signals.
