To define confounding bias in difference-in-difference studies and compare regression- and matching-based estimators designed to correct bias due to observed confounders. This causal model will then guide the specification of an appropriate analytical model (eg, using regression or matching) that can produce unbiased treatment effect estimates. We emphasize the importance of thoughtful incorporation of covariates to address confounding bias in difference-in-difference studies.

We show that epigenome- and transcriptome-wide association studies (EWAS and TWAS) are prone to significant inflation and bias of test statistics, an unrecognized phenomenon introducing spurious findings if left unaddressed. Neither GWAS-based methodology nor state-of-the-art confounder adjustment methods completely remove bias and inflation.

This study aimed to determine the factors influencing Vietnamese tea export quantities, namely, the internal factors of national tea production, productivity, and cultivated areas, and the external factors of export price and world tea export quantity (excluding Vietnam). We employed a time-series linear model to estimate the magnitude as well as the sign of the aforementioned factors on Vietnam’s tea export quantity and two Box-Cox transformations called a simple back-transformed forecast and a bias-adjustment to forecast the growth rate of the Vietnamese tea export quantity until 2030.

The impact of the anchoring and adjustment bias on analysts’ forecast in Vietnam stock market. In this research, we consider a well-known behavioral bias of financial market participants, the anchoring and adjustment bias described by Tversky and Kahneman (1974). Empirical findings have shown that this heuristic has significant economic consequences for the efficiency of the financial market of Vietnam.

In this work, we investigate the use of error-correcting output codes (ECOC) for boosting centroid text classifier. The implementation framework is to decompose one multi-class problem into multiple binary problems and then learn the individual binary classification problems by centroid classifier. However, this kind of decomposition incurs considerable bias for centroid classifier, which results in noticeable degradation of performance for centroid classifier. In order to address this issue, we use Model-Refinement to adjust this so-called bias. ...

If successful, this book will change your idea about what an optimal investment portfolio is. It is intended to be a guide both to understanding irrational investor behavior and to creating individual investors’ portfolios that account for these irrational behaviors. In this book, an optimal portfolio lies on the efficient frontier, but it may move up or down that frontier depending on the individual needs and preferences of each investor.

In this paper, we employ the bias-adjusted matching estimator developed by Abadie and Imbens (2006), which overcomes this difficulty. The matching estimator analysis maps the multiple matching variables into a single number that measures the distance to the observation to be matched and selects as control observations those with the lowest value for this distance. Matching estimators, therefore, make it possible to use several matching variables simultaneously.

This is particularly relevant because estimated differences between SRI and conventional funds may not be due to the socially responsible investing per se, but to differences between the companies that manage SRI funds and those that manage conventional funds. Finally, we improve upon the matched-pair analysis employed in several prior studies by using the matching estimator methodology of Abadie and Imbens (2006).

This paper analyses the equilibrium level of private credit to GDP in 11 Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries on the basis of a number of dynamic panels containing quarterly data on CEE economies, emerging markets and developed OECD countries. In doing so, we propose a unify- ing framework which includes factors driving both the demand for and the supply of private credit.

We evaluated the effects of previous pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) on the risk of obstructive lung disease. We analyzed population-based, the Second Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2001. Participants underwent chest X-rays (CXR) and spirometry, and qualified radiologists interpreted the presence of TB lesion independently. A total of 3,687 underwent acceptable spirometry and CXR. Two hundreds and ninty four subjects had evidence of previous TB on CXR with no subjects having evidence of active disease.

fast pace. As part of the structural adjustment programmes of the late 1980s and early 1990s Bangladesh undertook a number of initiatives towards trade liberalisation and trade promotion to stimulate exports and encourage investment in export-oriented activities. The major objective of these reforms was removal of anti-export bias, introduction of incentives for exports and facilitation of participation in global labour market.
