Ebook "Cellulose chemistry and properties: Fibers, nanocelluloses and advanced materials" is centered on the very timely topic of cellulose chemistry and properties and makes special emphasis on fibers, nanocelluloses and the development of advanced materials from such sources. The subject is important as polymer science and associated fields gravitate towards bio-based materials and products in developments current to the “bioeconomy”.

In this research, the bio-composites based on epoxy resin filled with nano-silica and vinyl copolymer were fabricated using diethylene triamine as a curing agent and casting method. The vinyl copolymer was synthesized from Hydroxyethyl Acrylate and Methacrylic acid using ammonium persulfate as an initiator.

Infectious illnesses are on the rise in today’s world, with serious consequences for animals, plants, and humans. Several infections, including the human immunodeficiency virus, affect a large number of individuals in various countries, particularly in the poorer portions of contemporary society, and continue to cause a variety of health problems. Viruses are tiny parasitic organisms. They are infectious agents that can only reproduce within a live cell of an organism.

Burn wounds are frequently encountered health problems, which need a new treatment approach especially in terms of good patient compliance. Availability of use of antioxidant agents and bio-adhesive gels in tissue healing can be an alternative as a new approach for wound healing. Antioxidant taurine containing bio-adhesive gels were prepared by using carbopol (CP) 940 and 934.

This work investigated the effect of adding low concentrations of nano-SiO2 (0.5, 1.0 and 1.5%) in the properties of films based on sodium alginate, to identify lower thresholds in the proportion of the reinforcing agent. It was found that, even in the smallest proportion, thermal stability of the nanocomposites improved significantly (with degradation onset increased by almost 15% compared with the control film).

Their management relies primarily on agrochemicals with short persistence; widespread use of these chemicals causes environmental and human health problems. The challenge of sustainable viticulture is to provide ecologically sound alternatives. In this regard, the application of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) and natural products derived from their symbionts can be an alternative. EPNs are well-known biocontrol agents for soil-dwelling insects.

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of chickpea as a prebiotic, antioxidant and thickener agent on the probiotic viability and physicochemical properties of stirred bio-yoghurt. Stirred bio-yoghurts were made using probiotic cultures (Bifidobacterium bifidum and a mixture of Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis and Lactobacillus acidophilus) with chickpea flour at different concentrations (1, 2 and 3%).

The plant’s bio active constituents were characterized by GC-MS. Acrylamide caused a significant (p < 0.05) ameliorated these values. GC/MS analysis revealed the presence of pentadecanoic acid, n‐hexadecanoic acid, cis‐13- octadecenoic acid, cis-vaccenic acid, oleic acid and octadecanoic acid. Our findings suggest that, ELEBa is a potential chemopreventive agent against acrylamide-induced oxidative stress in wistar rats.

In chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) several diseases are caused from fungal, bacterial and viral origin. Among the fungal diseases, damping off caused by species of Pythium is very common in the nursery which causes about 90 per cent mortality in nurseries and fields. Present experiment was carried out in in-vitro and in-situ conditions at Department of Plant Pathology, SHUATS in Completely Randomized Design with eight treatments and three replications each.

An experiment was conducted during Kharif season of 2017-2018 at the Central Research Farm of Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture Technology and Sciences, to evaluate the efficacy of bio-agents and botanical extracts against anthracnose (Colletotrichum lindemuthianum) of black gram (Vigna mungo L.) both in vitro and in vivo. In vitro studies showed significant difference in the inhibition per cent of mycelial growth of the pathogen among all the treatments.

Fusarium wilt is a soil-borne disease, which negatively affects the lentil crop widespread in India and affecting the lentil crop productivity. So the present study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of bioagents against wilt pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f.sp.lentis of lentil crop through antagonistic activity. Rhizospheric strains were isolated from wilt affected lentil plant in different regions of Eastern UP like Faizabad, Mau, Varanasi, Ghazipur. A total of 20 bacterial strains were isolated and tested for antagonistic activity by co-culture m
