Leachate is a noticeable pollution problem because it contains a considerable amount of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). If leachate isn't treated thoroughly, its leak will negatively affect the environment. Therefore, appropriate treatment technologies are required to remove them. Bio-Electro-Fenton (BEF) is a new method using microorganisms such as electrolytes to convert chemical energy into electricity to help create H2O2 support advanced oxidation process (AOPs).

We introduce the basic concepts and develop a theory for nonequilibrium steady-state biochemical systems applicable to analyzing large-scale complex isothermal reaction networks. In terms of the stoichiometric matrix, we dem-onstrate both Kirchhoff’s flux lawR‘J‘ ¼0 over a bio-chemical species, and potential law R‘l‘ ¼0overa reaction loop. They reflect mass and energy conservation, respectively.

In the photosynthetic bacterium Rhodobacter capsulatus, the synthesis of the energy-producing hydrogenase, HupSL, is regulated by the substrate H2, which is detected by a regulatory hydrogenase, HupUV. The HupUV protein exhibits typical features of [NiFe] hydrogenases but, interestingly, is resistant to inactivation by O2. Understanding the O2 resistance of HupUV will help in the design of hydrogenases with high potential for bio-technological applications.
