  • The yield losses in the range of 48-80 per cent due to early blight (Alternaria solani) damage in tomato were reported from India, Canada, USA and Nigeria (Basu, 1974; Datar and Mayee, 1984; Mathur and Shekhawat, 1986; Sherf and MacNab, 1986; Gwary and Nahunnarao, 1998 and Pandey and Pandey, 2002). The annual economic yield losses due to early blight have been estimated at 79% (Adhikari and Panthee, 2017).

  • In vitro evaluation of three contact and five systemic and two combination was carried out under laboratory condition in 2018-19 at Department of Plant Pathology, College of Horticulture, Mysuru by using Potato Dextrose Agar medium (PDA) as basal medium and six biocontrol agents were evaluated through dual culture technique. The result revealed that, there was significant difference among the fungicides in inhibiting the radial growth of the A. solani.

  • Early blight is potentially destructive disease in tomato occurring on the oldest leaves as small, brownish which are due to foliar blight disease and it was caused by a foliar fungal pathogen Alternaria solani. The disease causes considerable yield as well as post-harvest losses. A. solani produced blackish, fluffy mycelium with septate, beaked conidia on PDA Eight plant extracts and four biocontrol agents were evaluated following poison food technique and dual culture.

  • Biotic and abiotic stresses are major constraints in the production of groundnut. Among biotic stresses apart from bacterial and viral diseases, many fungal diseases are of economic importance. The major fungal diseases are Early leaf spot (Cercospora arachidicola), Late leaf spot (Cercosporidium personatum), Rust (Puccinia arachidis), Botrytis blight (Botrytis cinera), Aflarot/Yellow mould (Aspergillus flavus), Damping off (Pythium spp.

  • Early Blight of potato is caused by Alternaria solani (Ell. and Mart.) Jones and Grout is one of the most serious diseases of potato. Several management practices have been adopted so far to minimize the disease. But in present investigation based on laboratory and glass house condition revealed that soil application with Farm Yard Manure (FYM) and tuber seed dressing with bio-formulation provided higher germination, excellent growth as well as protection against early blight. The maximum germination percent is 83.33 and minimum germination inhibition percent is 16.

  • Alternaria leaf blight of tomato caused by Alternaria solani is a soil inhabiting and airborne pathogen responsible for considerable loss in tomato production. In the absence of resistant cultivars, the use of fungicides and biocontrol agents to control the disease is one exercise training. When there is an epidemic outbreak for some reason, perhaps the use of fungicides are one of the best options available. These fungicides must be used judiciously according to the need, type of body involved and availability of new fungicides.

  • The present study was carried out to find the integrated management of early blight of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) caused by Alternaria solani. Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) is an important vegetable crop which is grown all over the world. Early blight of tomato, caused by Alternaria solani is one of the most important diseases in tomato. Two fungicides i.e. Mancozeb 75 WP and Hexaconazole 5 EC at different concentrations (0.1%, 0.2% and 0.3%), two bio-agents viz., Trichoderma harzianum and T. koningii and two botanicals i.e.
