Lead (Pb) is a harmful pollutant that disrupts normal functions from the cell to organ levels. Salix babylonica is characterized by high biomass productivity, high transpiration rates, and species specific Pb. Better understanding the accumulating and transporting Pb capability in shoots and roots of S. babylonica, the toxic effects of Pb and the subcellular distribution of Pb is very important.

The goal of many proteomics experiments is to determine the abundance of proteins in biological samples, and the variation thereof in various physiological conditions. High-throughput quantitative proteomics, specifically label-free LC-MS/MS, allows rapid measurement of thousands of proteins, enabling large-scale studies of various biological systems.

Precision medicine promises to improve both the efficacy and safety of therapeutic products by better informing why some patients respond well to a drug, and some experience adverse reactions, while others do not. Pharmacogenomics is a key component of precision medicine and can be utilized to select optimal doses for patients, more precisely identify individuals who will respond to a treatment and avoid serious drug-related toxicities.

Ramet propagation in strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) is the most effective way in production. However, the lack of systematically phenotypic observations and high-throughput methods limits our ability to analyze the key factors regulating the heterogeneity in strawberry stolon buds.

The phenotypic changes in target cell induced by an exogenous agent, e.g. biologically active chemical, can be detected by labelling selected organelles with fluorescent dyes and observed under the high-throughput microscope. The changes of known biological targets (e.g. nucleus, proteins, mitochondria, microtubules, etc.) induced by a compound of interest allow predicting its mechanisms of action. High-throughput microscopy with capability of multiparametric imaging in combination with automated image-analysis is referred to as highcontent analysis or high-content screening (HCS).

Human interleukin-11 (hIL-11) is a pleiotropic cytokine that is involved in numerous biological activities such as hematopoiesis, osteoclastogenesis, neurogenesis and female fertility. IL-11 is obviously a key reagent to study the IL-11 receptors. However, conventional radio-iodination techni-ques lead to a loss of IL-11 bioactivity. Here, we report the construction and the production of a new recombinant human IL-11 (FPDIL-11). In this molecule, a speci®c phosphorylation site (RRASVA) has been introduced at the N-terminus of rhIL-11. ...

Safety footwear must meet ANSI minimum compression and impact performance standards in ANSI Z41-1991 (American National Standard for Personal Protection-Protective Footwear) or provide equivalent protection. Footwear purchased before July 5, 1994, must meet or provide equivalent protection to the earlier ANSI Standard (ANSI Z41.1-1967). All ANSI approved footwear has a protective toe and offers impact and compression protection. But the type and amount of protection is not always the same. Different footwear protects in different ways.

Cell-free protein synthesis offers rapidaccess toproteins that are selectively labelledwith [ 15 N]aminoacids andsuitable for analysis by NMR spectroscopy without chromatographic purification. A system based on anEscherichia colicell ex-tractwas optimizedwith regard toproteinyieldandminimal usage of 15 N-labelled amino acid, and examined for the presence of metabolic by-products which could interfere with the NMR analysis. Yields of up to 1.8 mg of human cyclophilin A per mL of reactionmedium were obtained by expression of a synthetic gene. ...

Data on organic production was obtained from two sources. As a first step data was gathered from organic certifying organisations. The National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia, Biological Farmers of Australia/Australian Certified Organic, Tasmanian Organic- Dynamic Producers and Safe Food Production Queensland provided data. The data gathered from certifiers has a number of limitations. Firstly, only the certifying organisations that charge a levy based on sales were able to supply data on farm production. The data that was provided is not consistent and often incomplete.
