In monogastric animals, phosphorus (P) homeostasis is maintained by regulating intestinal absorption, bone mobilization, and renal excretion. Since P is a non-renewable resource, a shortage is imminent due to widespread over-usage in the farming and animal husbandry industries. As a consequence, P efficiency should be improved in pig production. We sought to characterize the transcriptional response in re−/absorbing and excreting tissues in pigs to diets varying in calcium: phosphorus ratios.

Bone mineral density (BMD) measurements are widely used to assess fracture risk. However, the finding that some fracture patients had high BMD together with the low contribution of drugs to osteoporosis suggests that bone strength factors other than BMD contribute to bone quality.

Areal bone mineral density (aBMD) estimated by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is used to estimate peak bone mass, define osteoporosis and predict fracture. However, as aBMD is calculated as bone mineral content (BMC) divided by the scanned area, aBMD displays an inverse relationship with bone size.

Breast cancer is the most deadly malignancy in Mexican women. Although treatment has improved, it may significantly affect bone mineral status in those who receive it. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of cancer treatment on bone mineral density (BMD) and bone mineral content (BMC), in patients with breast cancer and explore the interaction of menopausal status and clinical stage with cancer treatment on such changes.

The results showed that the sample hydrolyzed at 500C with the Tegalase enzyme concentration of 0.3% resulted in the highest peptide formation and amino acid content in protein solution (3602 peptide bonding and 16.4 g/L, respectively) as well as the highest mineral content (38.8%) in the bone sample.

Despite lower fractional calcium absorption of CF and PF compared to HM, higher calcium content in both led to higher total calcium absorption compared to HM infants. No significant effect of prebiotics was observed on calcium absorption or other markers of bone mineral metabolism.

Maintaining and building healthy bones during the lifetime requires a complicated interaction between a number of physiological and lifestyle factors. Our goal of this study was to analyze the association between hand grip strength and the maximum peak expiratory flow with bone mineral density and content in adolescent students.

In the present study, the fish bone powder has been extracted by boiling the fish filleting waste with water and 2% sodium hydroxide solution (NaOH) about 30 min at 80-90 ºC boiling temperature. This study aimed to determine the nutritional composition of three different fish bone powder extracted with water and an alkaline solution. The nutritional composition of Grouper (Epinephelus diacanthus), Emperor (Letrinus fraenatus) and White snapper (Pristipomoides filamentosus) fish bone power extracted by two treatment method showed statistical significant difference (P < 0.05).

The bones lose calcium and other minerals especially in women after menopause. The trunk becomes shorter as the gel-like cushions or intervertebral disks, between each spine bone (vertebrae) gradually lose fluid and become thinner along with gradual loss of mineral content of vertebrae itself, making each vertebra thinner. As a result, the spinal column becomes curved and compressed (packed together). The foot arches become less pronounced, contributing to a slight loss of height. The arms and legs look longer when compared with the shortened trunk.

Beneficiation (or concentration) processes are gener- ally used to upgrade the phosphate content by removing contaminants and barren material prior to further processing. A few ores are of sufficiently high quality to require no further concentration. The natu- rally occurring impurities contained in phosphate rock ore depend heavily on the type of deposit (sedi- mentary or igneous), associated minerals, and the extent of weathering. Major impurities can include organic matter, clay and other fines, siliceous material, carbonates, and iron bearing minerals.
