In the study "WebGL-based visualization tool for 3D geological structures in shallow subsurface in urban areas" to provide 3D geological information in urban areas with an easy-to-understand style on the Web, we have developed a WebGL-based visualization tool for 3D geological maps that consists of shape data of geological boundary surfaces and 3D representations of borehole data.

In the research "Utilization of borehole data for correlation system of strata: A case study of Hanoi, Vietnam" the actual data of the investigation where the system was put into practice in order to estimate the subsurface structure of an area of approximately 7 km in length and 7 km in width in the city of Hanoi, using 275 borehole data, will be provided. In the stratigraphic comparison, the names of the Vietnamese soil types correspond to the Japanese soil types.

Recently, there has been increased interest in the use of seismic refraction surveys for the exploration of groundwater investigations. The aim of this study is to delineate groundwater potential zones using the seismic refraction technique. SmartSeis ST, with 12 channels seismograph was selected for seismic refraction data acquisition in Phonhong district of Vientiane Province, Laos.

This paper presents the author’s integrated regional studies during the last decade. The main purpose is to present an overall understanding of the geological structure, sedimentary basins and hydrocarbon systems of the whole Western Black Sea Zone (WBSZ). Th is study is based on original data from boreholes, seismic and gravity-magnetic surveys and hydrocarbon accumulations.

The main goal of 3D modeling studies in the mining sector is to address the complex geological, mineralogical, and structural factors in subsurface environments and detect the ore zone(s). In order to solve this complexity, use of quality data (e.g., a wide range of boreholes at regular intervals) is necessary. However, this situation is not always possible because of certain restrictions such as intensive vegetation, high slope areas, and some economic constraints.

In this paper, a method of Thompson E.N. and Wald D.J. (2012) was applied to build a VS30 map of Ho Chi Minh city using, many different data such as geologic, topographic and shear wave velocities derived from the Standard Penetration Test (SPT) data of 104 boreholes.

This is the first time the LPI based method was applied for evaluation of earthquake-induced liquefaction for Hanoi city. The most advantage of the method is that it can be easy to use, although the reliability of the results depends very much on number and distribution of the borehole data. Nevertheless, the combination of this method with other available methods can help effectively solving the problem of urban seismic risk assessment for the mega-cities in Vietnam.

Magnetotelluric surveys (soundings) are a naturalsource electromagnetic (EM) geophysical method that utilizes variations in the Earth’s magnetic field to image subsurface structures. A magnetotelluric sounding was attempted at Weyburn but has not produced results. Consequently, a final assessment of its utility is not available (Monea et al., 2008). Electrical resistance tomography (ERT) is a technique of imaging subsurface electrical conductivity. When deployed in time-lapse mode, it is capable of detecting conductivity changes caused by the injection of CO2.
