  • Deficiency of micronutrients during the last three decades has grown in both, magnitude and extent. This has become a major constraint to production and productivity of vegetables in general and onion in particular. Bhonde et al., (1995) evaluated the effect of zinc, copper and boron on onion crop. Bulb size and yield as well as quality of bulb enhanced when micronutrients were applied in combinations instead of their single application.micronutrients, Zinc and Boron, Quality of Onion

  • This behaviour may the related to restricted release of boron from organic complexes which ultimately impaired ability of plants to extract B from soil due to lack of moisture in the rhi7osphere. Even of B levels in soil is high, then also low soil moisture impairs transport of B to absorbing root surfaces (Das et al., 2016).

  • The low yield of pulses is mainly attributed to their cultivation on poor soils with inadequate and imbalanced nutrient application without the application of organic manures and micronutrients like boron, zinc and iron. Since the poor soils are low in organic matter content, use of organic manures plays a vital role in improving soil physical condition, provides vital plant nutrients and maintains long term productivity of the soil. Boron helps in carbohydrate transport. It is necessary for the germination of pollen, formation of flowers and fruits and for the absorption of cations.

  • Field studies were conducted on application of zinc and boron to summer rice crop on Alfisols at Naganahalli village, Mysore district, Karnataka. The results showed that external application of zinc as ZnSO4 @ 20 kg ha-1 and boron as borax @ 4 kg ha-1 significantly enhanced the plant height number of tillers hill-1 , grains per panicle, thousand grain weight, grain yield and straw yield of paddy. Further there was significant increase in major (N, P and K), secondary (S, Ca and Mg) and micronutrient (Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn and B) status of soils.

  • An adequate boron amendment ensures not only ample fruit set, but guarantees optimum fruit yield with excellent quality in terms of juice content, ratio between total soluble solids and acidity, and fruit peel colour (Srivastava and Singh 2005). Very little information is available on effect of zinc and boron under agro-climatic conditions of Uttarakhand and no work so far has been done under tarai conditions with the cultivar Pant Prabhat. Therefore, it has become imperative to find out influence of zinc and boron on leaf nutrient status of guava.

  • The transition metals are a group of metals that are found in the middle of the periodic table. The alkaline earth metals, beginning with beryllium are to the left and the boron group elements are to the right are termed as "transition element". There are more transition metals than any other groups in the periodic table. Transition metals have several general properties. They are harder and less reactive than the alkaline earth metals. They are also harder than the post transition metals. They make colorful chemical compounds with other elements.
