  • In this study, a performance of shrimp paste production is measured by using simulation approach. A discrete event simulation model is developed to illustrate the processes in the production line which involved four major processes. From the model, it is estimated that the average process time taken to produce 2000 pieces of shrimp paste is 235.13 minutes while the average waiting time taken in the operation system is 89.21 minutes. The findings also show that the bottleneck of the production process is found to be at packaging process and some of the resources are not fully utilized.

  • Anisoptera costata is an endangered species in Vietnam, from habitat loss and over-exploitation. To protect this species, we analyzed 56 adult trees using eight microsatellites to investigate the genetic diversity within and among three A. costata populations, representing the range of distribution of this species in southeastern Vietnam.

  • The observation that many alien species become invasive despite low genetic diversity has long been considered the ‘genetic paradox’ in invasion biology. This paradox is often resolved through the temporal buildup genetic diversity through multiple introduction events.

  • In contexts in which mechanized harvesting is limited, such as in the northwestern Black Sea region of Turkey, it is important to improve timber harvesting productivity while preserving operators’ safety and reducing environmental damage. This study aims to introduce a methodology in which the harvesting process is simulated with discrete-event simulation (DES) software in order to identify bottlenecks.

  • This paper presents a new mechanism that allows the application to register its interest in a specific event, and then efficiently collect the notification of the event at a later time. The set of events that this mechanism covers is shown to include not only those described above, but may also be extended to unforeseen event sources with no modification to the API. The rest of this paper is structured as follows: Section 2 examines where the central bottleneck of poll() and se- lect() is, Section 3 explains the design goals, and Section 4 presents the API of new mechanism.

  • First we must determine what is important. Do we need all log data from every critical system in order to perform security, response, and audit? Will we need all that data at lightning speed? (Most likely, we will not.) How much data can the network and collection tool actually handle under load? What is the threshold before networks bottleneck and/or the SIEM is rendered unusable, not unlike a denial of service (DOS)? These are variables that every organization must consider as they hold SIEM to standards that best suit their operational goals....
