  • For AE FRP vessels are used as a primary means of assessment. It usually does not incorporate with strain gauge device or other sensor devices. This may be partly due to the nature of damage in FRP vessels and the resulting brittle failure mode. In the structure local damage can lead to catastrophic failure without warning clearly detected. one of the important advantages of sound emissions in this industry is the ability to assess the importance damage.

  • As was acknowledged by O’Loughlin and Arkoudis (2009), whose research has informed this current research, generalising from a small sample size is problematic (this one is even smaller than the 63 students in O’Loughlin and Arkoudis’s study). Nevertheless, taken together with these researchers’ findings, tendencies can be discerned. Because this current study was conducted using only results obtained after 1 July 2007, when half band scores were recorded for Writing and Speaking, some finer distinctions in score change can be observed. ...

  • The MATLAB BVP solver of bvp4c is introduced as a Residual control based, adaptive mesh solver. An adaptive mesh solver is an alternative approach to that of a uniform mesh, which would specify a uniform grid of data points xi over the interval [xi, xi+1] and solve accordingly. The adaptive solver will adjust the mesh points at each stage in the iterative procedure, distributing them to points where they are most needed. This can lead to obvious advantages in terms of computational and storage costs as well as allowing control over the grid resolution.

  • At the same time, by comparing over time, case studies document that well-executed investments can provide benefits. These accrue through four main channels, namely (i) social infrastructure, often supported by community development funds using land compensation; (ii) employment and jobs; (iii) access to markets and technology for local producers; and (iv) local or national tax revenue. In all cases, economic viability of investment is a necessary condition for positive social outcomes to materialize, including food security.

  • Before we describe the current books, let us first briefly compare them to the previous book in retrospective. First of all, there were some very promising directions a decade ago that unfortunately did not meet the expectations. Molecular biology and genetics, particularly in regards to expression of stress proteins and other pathways related to the cell injury, have not introduced any serious breakthroughs except for the use of ROCK inhibitors for cryopreservation of human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells.

  • They exhibit the profile characteristic of being credit constrained with spending out of current income, while simultaneously choosing a “flat” profile for credit card spending over the pay period. This behavior suggests of the use of a mental account rule, and thus provides some indication that households in our sample are sophisticated, and able to use internal commitments to limit overspending. In summary, the two main stylized facts generated by this paper are difficult to explain in the standard economic framework.

  • Real estate investment is about creating and adding value through the effective management of property assets. Real estate is fundamentally no different from other mainstream investments: the analysis of property investments can be easily integrated into the capital market framework. Capital asset pricing theory evolved into the capital asset pricing model (CAPM). The CAPM model, described by Franfurter (1995: 104) as the ‘keystone’ of financial theory, has been tested in financial securites (stock exchange) markets over three decades.

  • After the oil embargo ended, the use of ethanol increased, even though the price of oil fell and for years stayed low. Ethanol became cheaper to make as its production technology advanced. Agricultural technology also improved, and the price of corn dropped. By 1992, over 1 billion gallons of fuel ethanol were used annually in the United States, and by 2004 usage had risen to over 3.4 billion gallons. Many farm groups began to see ethanol as a way to maintain the price of corn and even to revitalize the rural economy.

  • If you can still live in your place despite the problem, then you should fi rst write your landlord explaining the situation, and informing the landlord of any housing, building or health code violations. Sending a letter like this is the best way to get repairs done and still stay on good terms with your landlord. You should keep a copy of this letter. If appropriate, you may want to suggest that your landlord reduce the rent until he repairs the problem. You may also want to warn him that you may withhold rent if the problem...

  • The geographical source of the wood is mainly Java, with an increasing share coming from the outer islands, according to the traders surveyed. The presence of a large number of traders and brokers installed in Jepara in order to supply the local market, as well as the specific nature of contracting and subcontracting relationships between the enterprises, creates an excessive amount of wood sourced in Jepara itself. Figure 21 represents the geographical sources of the wood. The colours of the sectors correspond to the place of origin of the wood used in each enterprise.

  • Nowadays, there are many kinds of soldering irons such as: pulse soldering iron, baking soldering iron, but these machines are not stable in temperature and are not highly accurate during working time. Besides those, they cannot be controlled in temperature for different applications. To overcome the disadvantages of the old kinds of soldering irons, the soldering station, which can change the temperature and track and stabilize around the setting points, has been discovered in this paper.

  • The fabricated pores were found to be stable at ambient conditions and in water. The pore-size tuning technique was further tested on holes fabricated using a different process. In agreement with Chen et al. 5 ,we find that a focused electron beam with a spot size of a few nanometres can be used to drill holes in thin free-standing SiO2 membranes, with an estimated thickness of about 10 nm (Fig. 3a). Figure 3b,c shows a pore that has been drilled using an electron-beam intensity above 1×108 Am–2 .

  • Building on MATLAB (the language of technical computing), Simulink provides a platform for engineers to plan, model, design, simulate, test and implement complex electromechanical, dynamic control, signal processing and communication systems. Simulink-Matlab combination is very useful for developing algorithms, GUI assisted creation of block diagrams and realisation of interactive simulation based designs. The eleven chapters of the book demonstrate the power and capabilities of Simulink to solve engineering problems with varied degree of complexity in the virtual environment....

  • Zubkov et al. (2000) found that Prochlorococcus spp. were the dominant cyanobacteria in the northern and southern Atlantic gyres and the equatorial region, giving way to Synechococcus spp. in cooler waters. Synechococcus cells also become more numerous and even reach blooming densities near the tropical region affected by the Mauritanian upwelling. Finally, the concentrations of Picoeukaryotes tend to be at their height in temperate waters.

  • Hedge funds rely on the economies of scale available through third-party providers all the time. They don’t borrow stock directly; they leverage the scale of their prime broker. They don’t issue commercial paper directly to finance long positions; they leverage the banks. Similar opportunities exist across a wide range of fund activities, from trading and technology, to human resource support, to risk manage- ment and reporting. By moving the burden of high-expense activities from their own P&L to a service provider, hedge funds can reduce their fixed expenses.
