Photovoltaic technology is an alternative resource for renewable and sustainable energy and low costs organic photovoltaic devices such as bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells, which are selective candidates for the effective conversion of solar energy into electricity. Asymmetric phthalocyanines containing electron acceptor and donor groups create high photovoltaic conversion efficiency in dye sensitized solar cells. Amorphous lithium niobate (LiNbO3) films were deposited onto silicon substrates by the radiofrequency magnetron sputtering method in a pure Ar environment and an Ar þ O2 gas mixture with various oxygen contents. The oxide charge existing in as-grown films has two components: the positive Qox distributed in the bulk of a film and the negative Qox located at the film/substrate interface with a maximum magnitude corresponding to an Ar (80) O2 (20) gas mixture.

We demonstrate an efficient bulk heterojunction (BHJ) organic solar cell (OSCs) utilizing a soluble phthalocyanine derivative, 1,4,8,11,15,18,22,25-octahexylphthalocyanine (C6PcH2), and a fullerene derivative, 1-(3-methoxy-carbonyl)-propyl-1-1-phenyl-(6,6)C71 and roles of processing additive solvent on improvement of the BHJ OSCs.

In the present work, we have endeavored the utilization of wet-chemically synthesized copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO-NPs) as the active layer in hybrid bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells. The BHJs with CuO-NPs display significantly different physics from customary BHJs, and prove a noteworthy improvement in their performance.

Novel six organic donor-π-acceptor molecules (D-π-A) used for Bulk Heterojunction organic solar cells (BHJ), based on thienopyrazine were studied by density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT) approaches, to shed light on how the π-conjugation order influence the performance of the solar cells.

The optimized material showed a broad absorption in the region from ultra violet to near infra-red and the photoluminescence quenching higher than 90%. The obtained results provide further insight into photophysics of the heterojunction system and device performance improvement by using this system as an active layer.

Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) were synthesized and incorporated with polyethylene dioxythiophene:poly(4-styrenesulfonate (PEDOT:PSS), Ag nanowires (AgNWs) to form a composite that can be used for enhancement of relative humidity (RH%) sensing. The composite films contained bulk heterojunctions of AgNW/GQD and AgNW/PEDOT:PSS. The sensors made from the composites responded well to relative humidity in a range from 10% to 50% at room temperature.
