The soil borne, obligate biotrophic fungus Synchytrium endobioticum causes tumor-like tissue proliferation (wart) in potato tubers and thereby considerable crop damage. Chemical control is not effective and unfriendly to the environment. S. endobioticum is therefore a quarantined pathogen. The emergence of new pathotypes of the fungus aggravate this agricultural problem.

Drought is one of the most important abiotic stresses that cause drastic reduction in rice grain yield (GY) in rainfed environments. The identification and introgression of QTL leading to high GY under drought have been advocated to be the preferred breeding strategy to improve drought tolerance of popular rice varieties.

Production and consumption of pomegranate have been increasing in the world in recent years due to its health benefits to humans. Sunburn is an important physiological disorder caused by high temperature, light, and radiation. With the changes in climatic conditions that have occurred in recent years, the effect of sunburn is increasing and limiting the production and quality of pomegranate.

Anaerobic germination is one of the most important traits for rice under direct-seeded conditions. The trait reduces risk of crop failure due to waterlogged conditions after seeding and allows water to be used as a means of weed control.

Segmented polyurethanes were synthesized by the reactions of poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL)-diol and 1,6- hexamethylene diisocyanate through bulk polymerization without using solvent, initiator, or catalyst. Phase separation and hydrogen bond formation between hard segments or between hard and soft segments were examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)-ATR and X-ray diffraction (XRD), while physical and mechanical properties were studied by atomic force microscope, differential scanning calorimeter, dynamic mechanical analysis, and tensile tester.

Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is cultivated worldwide, and it is essential to produce enough highquality seeds to meet demand. Pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) in cucumber is a critical problem and causes serious damage to seed production and quality.

Common buckwheat (2n = 2x = 16) is an outcrossing pseudocereal whose seeds contain abundant nutrients and potential antioxidants. As these beneficial compounds are damaged by preharvest sprouting (PHS) and PHS is likely to increase with global warming, it is important to find efficient ways to develop new PHS-tolerant lines.

Melon fruit flesh color is primarily controlled by the “golden” single nucleotide polymorhism of the “Orange” gene, CmOr, which dominantly triggers the accumulation of the pro-vitamin A molecule, β-carotene, in the fruit mesocarp. The mechanism by which CmOr operates is not fully understood.

The cultivated peanut is an important oil and cash crop grown worldwide. To meet the growing demand for peanut production each year, genetic studies and enhanced selection efficiency are essential, including linkage mapping, genome-wide association study, bulked-segregant analysis and marker-assisted selection.

Blueberry is of high economic value. Most blueberry varieties selected for the fresh market have an appealing light blue coating or “bloom” on the fruit due to the presence of a visible heavy epicuticular wax layer. This waxy layer also serves as natural defense against fruit desiccation and deterioration.

Blackgram (Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper) (2n=22) is one of the most highly valuable pulse crop, cultivated in almost all parts of India. It is a good source of easily digestible proteins, carbohydrates and other nutritional factors. Besidesvarious biotic and abiotic constraints, viral diseases mostly yellow mosaic disease is the prime threat for extensive economic losses in areas of production.

The identification of marker tightly linked to male sterility will greatly facilitate for marker assisted selection (MAS) breeding through accurate selection of parental lines in hybrid production. In the present study, to assess the efficiency of previously reported SCAR 4 marker for marker assisted selection was validated by screening the marker in a total of 226 F2 mapping population derived from a cross between male sterile (IIHR10521AB) and a male fertile pure line (IIHRMY7) maintained at IIHR along with bulk segregant analysis.
