Ebook "Seasonal carbon cycling in the Sargasso sea near Bermuda" demonstrate that by simultaneously observing changes in the stable isotopic ration of DIC, it is possible to quantify the contribution of physical and biological processes to this summer-fall drawdown. They find that biology is the dominant contrbutor to the drawdown, but that physical processes also play an important role.

The present study aims to determine the role of the carbon source from mangroves to provide the organic matter in intertidal sediments by the stable isotopes approach. The present results suggested that mangroves are important in accumulating organic carbon and fine–grained sediments in the Tien Yen Bay, contributing important values to climate change mitigation and maintaining biodiversity in this area.

A carbonate build-up, 12 m thick, was formed with some interruptions, through the middle Pleistocene period. For this study, two travertine sections (F and D) were extensively used to figure out palaeoenvironmental and palaeoclimatic proxies. The main precipitation cycles, separated by palaeosol levels, have been described and interpreted from a sedimentological perspective. The carbonate deposits consist of shrubs, crystalline crust, reed, laminated (micritic), pisoids, oncoids, calcite thin rafts and coated gas bubbles, lithoclasts, and palaeosol levels.

This paper focuses on the correlation of two different marble units from an approximately 3,900 m deep geothermal exploration well (GP-1) in western Turkey by petrographical and geochemical data. Future geothermal exploration drilling in that area will benefit from a better (tectono) stratigraphic correlation and a better definition of the reservoir geometry in the basin. It is an innovative approximation in many settings to correctly correlate marble units without clear stratigraphic markers or fossil record, in particular, when sample material is restricted to cuttings.

The amending soils with 2% BC or AC changed the biokinetics of VPH degradation by rendering VPHs less bioavailable, but did not appear to have any detrimental effects on VPH degradation and may serve as a sustainable, cost-effective approach for enhancing the natural attenuation of VPHs in soil on the long term.

The SIAR model, on the other hand, identified fishes, fish eggs, and invertebrates with mean contributions of 35%, 30%, and 16%, respectively. Invertebrates were also an important food source for S. lucioperca during this season according to Bugalho et al. (2008). In conclusion, this study showed that S. lucioperca shifted its diet from invertebrates, including crayfish, during spring, to fishes during autumn, a result also supported by the increase in the trophic position of S. lucioperca from spring to the autumn. This study is the first to report results on the food content of S.

The Los Azufres geothermal field is the second most important geothermal field for electricity production in Mexico, with a total installed capacity of 188 MW. Hydrothermal alteration studies have been an important tool for geothermal exploration and development of the field, but little attention has been given to the geochemical and isotopic characterization of hydrothermal minerals.

Isotope geochemistry of lacustrine carbonate represents a powerful tool to reconstruct paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental conditions. Here, we present a comprehensive set of long-term oxygen (δ18O) and carbon (δ13C) stable isotope records from 5 Chattian to Burdigalian lacustrine sequences distributed over the Central Anatolian Plateau.

A very significant quantity of dolomites and dolomitic limestones of variable origins occurs in the syn-rift Neogene carbonate platforms of the NW Red Sea coast and the Gulf of Suez. These are more common in the Um Diheisi Member of the Ranga Formation (early Miocene), the Um Mahara Formation (middle Miocene), the Um Gheig Formation (late Miocene), and the Dashet El Dabaa Member of the Shagra Formation (Pliocene).

Independent sea surface temperature (SST) estimates obtained using planktonic foraminiferal transfer functions and the Mg/Ca ratios show excellent agreement, with r2 correlation coefficients of 0.92–0.95. Planktonic foraminiferal assemblages are similar, through time, across several deep basins, suggesting that major changes must have occurred in near synchroneity across the Aegean Sea.

The cometabolism of citrate and glucose by growing Lactococcus lactisssp. lactis bv. diacetylactis was studied using a natural-abundance stable isotope technique. By a judicious choice of substrates differing slightly in their 13 C/ 12 C ratios, the simultaneous metabolism of citrate and glucose to a range of compounds was analysed. These end-products include lactate, acetate, formate, diacetyl and acetoin. All these products have pyruvate as a common intermediate.

Another critical barrier to access is discrimination by state laws or fertility clinics. Coverage in five of the states with insurance mandates 12 is only available to married couples, and four of these states 13 mandate use of the husband’s sperm, eliminating the possibility of donor sperm. Some fertility clinics only offer services to married couples as well. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine reports that fertility clinics vary in their willingness to treat single women, single men, lesbian couples, and gay male couples.
