Catching efficiency

The current trend of attracting FDI is witnessing a massive change with the sharp decline of the total global FDI, the shift of FDI flows, the change in international investment methods, and fierce competition in attracting capital… To catch up with these trends, Vietnam needs to change the capital-attraction strategy to enhance the FDI efficiency in the new context.

The purpose of this paper is to employ the Meta-Frontier Cost Function to compare the bank efficiencies in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand during the period of 2002–2009. We propose two new variables: income on loans and non-performing loans, to identify whether the banks are both cost and profit efficient and to control the quality of loans in contrast with early studies using loans and securities as the output variables. Evidence is found that the Indonesian banks are the most efficient. The empirical results illuminate the governments’ policies and bank management.

The effectiveness of four different funnels such as Rectangular, Oval, heartin and Circular shaped funnels were tested in a serial collapsible fish trap through fishing trials conducted in a coastal fishing ground of Mandapam of Tamil Nadu, India. A total of 24 fishing operations were carried out.

The present study was conducted to gather information on traditional knowledge is being followed by Kombuthurai fishers. Kombuthurai is a small fishing village located in Thoothukudi district where they are following a unique fishing practice by hook and line method, without employing any fishing nets. Major and minor targeted catches and its peculiar fishing ground, determined hook size and bait fish usage for those fishery were documented based on their traditional knowledge.

This paper tries to analyze Chinese three types of bank’s efficiency changes and differences, after the financial crisis, through the integrated use of DEA and super efficiency DEA method. The results show that: the efficiency of Chinese commercial Banks in general is on the rise, the comprehensive technical efficiency growth stems mainly from scale efficiency improvement, pure technical efficiency is stagnant, and scale efficiency presents convergence among all kinds of banks, while the technical level is the core strength of banks’ current and future competition.

Because the average students are the prevailing part of the student population, it is important but difficult for the educators to help average students by improving their learning efficiency and learning outcome in school tests. We conducted a quasi-experiment with two English classes taught by one teacher in the second term of the first year of a junior high school. The experimental class was composed of average students (N=37), while the control class comprised talented students (N=34). Therefore the two classes performed differently in English subject with mean difference of 13.

Nevertheless, maintaining macroeconomic and financial stability during the growth process will remain a challenging task. A smooth process of catch up growth depends critically on higher growth and income being realised in a sustainable way, i.e. that the debt and credits can be serviced without major demand adjustment. The lower interest rate is likely to be beneficial for investment, but at the same time may challenge the capacity of the financial system to choose and monitor the most efficient investment projects.

We decided to use continuous monitoring to improve shipping throughput (speed) and accuracy. Our goals included the elimination of the annual physical inventory—but this was a minor benefit. The real benefit was efficiency of the distribution operation—speed in picking and shipping product with less staff, every day of the year. We built an inventory locator system and improved automated efficiencies by adding locations to the pick tickets. We then added a control function (Inventory Control Dept. [ICD]) that reviewed inventory received, and released it into the inventory.
