  • In this study, two types of acrylic latexes, PA (polyacrylate) and PU/PA (polyurethane modified PA), are investigated in their influences on mechanical properties of mortar under different interaction mechanisms. In light of a previous study, the polymer–cement hydrates interaction mechanisms in PA and PU/PA modified mortars are illustrated respectively, and the microstructures are simulated using a computer model.

  • Mechanical property of cement mortar is closely related to polymer modifier type. Four kinds of polymer latex including Chloroprene Rubber (CR), Styrene Butadiene (SBR), Styrene Acrylic (SA) and Polyvinyl Acetate (PVAc) were selected to prepare the modified cement mortar in this study. Mechanical behavior of modified cement mortar was evaluated by flexural strength, Compressive Strength and Tensile Strength, respectively. The micro-morphology of modified cement mortar was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), which was useful to analyze the modification mechanism.

  • This paper evaluates and compares the water retention in the ,fresh state and adhesion or bond strength in the hardened state of powdered and aqueous polymer-modified mortars. The polymermodified mortars using various powdered and aqueous cement modifiers were prepared with different polymer-cement ratios, and tested for water retention in the fresh state and adhesion in tension in the hardened state.
