Physiologic narrowing of the central airway occurs during expiration. Conditions in which this nar‑ rowing becomes excessive are referred to as expiratory central airway collapse. Expiratory central airway collapse is usually managed by applying positive pressure to the airways, which acts as a pneumatic stent.

Bronchoscopy treatments of central airway obstruction (CAO) under general anesthesia are high-risky procedures, and posing a giant challenge to the anesthesiologists. We summarized and analyzed our clinical experience in patients with CAO undergoing flexible or rigid bronchoscopy, to estimate the safety of skeletal muscle relaxants application and the traditional Low-frequency ventilation.

Scarring central airway stenosis (SCAS) is a potentially life-threatening condition with debilitating symptoms. Interventional bronchoscopy is increasingly used to relieve symptoms in patients with SCAS, but recurrent stenosis is frequently observed. Little data exist on the long-term prognosis of interventional bronchoscopy for SCAS.

Interventional bronchoscopy is considered an effective treatment option for malignant central airway obstruction (MCAO). However, there are few reports of interventional bronchoscopy in patients with MCAOs due to extra-pulmonary malignancy.

Malignant central airway obstruction (CAO) occurs in approximately 20–30% of patients with lung cancer and is associated with debilitating symptoms and poor prognosis. Multimodality therapeutic bronchoscopy can relieve malignant CAO, though carries risk.

Malignant central airway obstruction (MCAO) occurs in 20–30% of patients with primary pulmonary malignancy. Although bronchoscopic intervention is widely performed to treat MCAO, little data exist on the prognosis of interventional bronchoscopy.

Choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs) are rare, usually benign, neoplasms originating in the central nervous system. In this study, we present the first case of a giant airway-obstructing CPP in the pharynx of a newborn.
