Owing to the rich biodiversity in terms of sheep, goat, camel, yak and poultry, the livestock activity has a contribution of about 11percent in the Gross Domestic Product of the state. It offers promising employment opportunities and handsome economic returns especially in rural mountainous areas of the state. The indigenous livestock populations are very well adapted to various challenges posed due to certain topographic, demographic and other factors.

  • Fungi are commonly used in biotechnological and environmental processes through exploitation of their natural catalytic activities. One such fungal activity is to degrade lignocellulosic biomass by producing certain extracellular enzymes. In this study an indigenous white rot fungus SMT 29 isolated from compost sample was used under submerged conditions for lignocellulolytic enzyme production. The process for lignocellulolytic enzyme production was improved by optimizing certain physical and nutritional parameters.

  • The present study was conducted to know the comparative efficacy of Entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana and certain indigenous products against the larvae of diamond back moth, Plutella xylostella (Linn) on Cabbage (Brassica oleracea) a lab trial was conducted during the 2017-2018 at SHUATS, Allahabad. All the treatments were found significantly superior over control. Among the treatments the highest larval mortality of 100 % with the treatment T4 and the minimum larval mortality of 26.666% was recorded with the treatment T2 (NL+BBM).
