Cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide

A new spectrophotometric method has been developed for determination of molybdenum using surfactantmediated liquid–liquid extraction. Molybdenum(V) obtained by ascorbic acid reduction in 2.5 M H2 SO4 reacted spontaneously with thiocyanate and cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), forming an intense orange yellow complex that was extracted quantitatively into 1,2-dichloroethane and absorbed at 460 nm. The absorbance of the extract was found to be stable for more than 24 h.

Different methods available for extraction of plant genomic DNA suffers from one or more drawbacks including compromised quality, quantity and many more. The extraction of high-quality DNA Simarouba glauca DC is notoriously troublesome due to the high contents of polysaccharides and different secondary metabolites. Herein, we aimed to develop a modified CTAB extraction method to isolate DNA from tissues containing high levels of polysaccharides.

During survey, tomato leaf samples showing leaf curl symptoms were collected from different tomato fields of Dharwad, Haveri and Kolar districts. Total nucleic acid extraction was carried out by cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) method and quantified to perform polymerase chain reaction using Begomovirus group specific coat protein primers targeting the coat protein region and were sequenced.

Kinetic study of oxidation of toluidine blue (TB+) by periodate was carried out in aqueous medium and also in the cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) reverse micellar medium. In both the media reaction obeys first order kinetics with respect to each of the reactants.
